Awful even if it's all as it seems, but these things are often scams - you buy a pup sight unseen, pay loads for it plus shipping, and the puppy never arrives. These scams have been around for a while, I thought people were wise to them by now, but I heard of someone (an overseas student) getting caught out a few weeks ago.

And that's without P&P, ruby.
How on earth do you 'ship' a puppy??
Across the United States FFS!

tbh I'd rather it was a money scam than an actual breeder

I wondered if it was a scam. I am on scam alert tbh as some bugger tried to have us at work today. The payment logos look really dubious that's all (paypal etc) would rather it was a money scam tbh.

Oh, a scam - good!!

Might be a scam, might not - maybe in the US people are happier with puppies as commodities? In the UK the scam sales are often through effectively untraceable places like gumtree, facebook, small ads etc. That one is quite a full-on (though very unprofessional-looking) website. I wonder if the twee-sounding address of the farm actually checks out?

hmm, I suspect it is real - I've heard of american breeders shipping puppies before.

SantaIAmSoFuckingRock · 11/12/2012 19:14

why on earth would anyone buy a puppy they have never even seen? fucking stupid bastarding assholes, both sellers and buyers. how can any of them think that is best for the dogs?

Report
SantaIAmSoFuckingRock · 11/12/2012 19:16

i hope it's a scam. i hope anyone stupid enough to think they are doing right by a dog to buy it this way gets stung for thousands and learns a very valuable lesson.

Quite apart from the "ethics" involved, HOW THE FUCK can anyone justify paying that amount of money for a CROSSBREED dog?

I thought I'd seen it all, working in rescue. Obviously not so.

If you read the section on the delivery of the puppy , she says her vet has said it's better and easier for the dog than a long drive Hmm
they're crated and taxied to the airport then flown and taxied again , I could cry

there's a 'Contact us' button - maybe we should.

Does the US have any equivalent to the RSPCA?

I think in America it's probably not that odd they do sell puppies and kittens in pet shops or is that just on tv?

Report
PacificDogwood · 11/12/2012 20:31

Just because it might be common practice (I have no idea), but that does not make it right.
There is an animal protection thingmy... let me have a google think

they certainly did when I lived there about 20 years ago. Shops in the mall. Pups in glass-fronted cages. I hadn't ever owned a dog at that point and didn't realise quite how bad it was - especially for the last pup left.Sad

I am sure it is real. Ian Dunbar talks about puppies being shipped across country in his book I remember.
I also remember cooing over puppies in shop windows when I lived there less than 10 years ago, not understanding what it meant.

Puppy shipping is common in the US, and they still do sell puppies and kittens in pet shops.
