Is there anyway you can get a dog out of a pound before the 7 days if you think you might know who it belongs to?

My dad was offered a dog today by someone in a petshop. A friend of his had found it at the place he walks my sisters dog.

Going by the description of the dog, he thinks it belongs to an old lady he sees walking there.

He went upto see it, but unfortunately the man who took it in could not find a home for it and does not like dogs so has handed it into the pound.

My Dad is ringing them tomorrow to enquire about this dog.

If it is this ladies dog is there anyway my Dad could get it out of the pound early to try and re-unite it with it's owner?

Unfortunatly he does not know the ladies contact details, only where she walks and shops, but he has said he will put ads in the paper and the petshops he knows she uses.

Should he put an ad in anyway, even if he can't get the dog out? I have told him he should. This lady is single and dotes on her dog, but is not likely to be internet savvy, so is unikely to notice her dog on the pounds website.

Could he ask in the shop to see if they know where she lives or when she might be back in? Or ask other dog walkers in the area if they have seen her recently.
I really doubt they would allow him to get the dog out before the 7 days, he may be able to get them to extend the 7 days while he searches for the owner.

Hope he is able to find her soon, assuming it is her dog.

kid, he is taking the dog home after the 7 days, regardless of whether it is this ladies dog. It's a whippet and he has wanted a whippet for ages. He's been told it's a very friendly, happy little dog who gets on well with other dogs and cats.

If it's this ladies dog he will continue to search for her and give the dog back when he finds her, if it's not he's keeping it, so he says.

Lie. Tell Joan it's his dog. If the dog is friendly enough he'll respond to a kind approach regardless and your dad can pass himself off as the owner. If Joan will recognise your dad then get them to take someone up there and go into the pound to claim the pooch instead. :)

I said he should lie, but he doesn't want as he'd want to leave contact details just incase the lady does go looking for her dog there. He hopes she might have family who would know where to search for her dog.

He's going to walk my sisters dog where she walks with her friends again today in the hope that he finds her or her friends.

Poor lady, my Dad has told me she lives alone with her dog and treats him like her baby. She must be distraught. The eejit that found it was going to re-home it without even trying to find where it came from

If she'd had the dog microchipped, she would probably be reunited with it by now.

Lie, then put posters up searching for the LADY, rather than advertising the type of dog found too exactly, given the breed and that undesirables might come forward claiming to be the owners.

If somone has lost the dog make sure that THEY describe him, not your dad. All he needs do is advertise that he's found a "knee height, slim built brown dog with white patches" or whatever.

I'll make sure he doesn't advertise the breed. I think he was just going to advertise it by it's name if it is this ladies dog i.e "Found Rover at X beach"
