It was goood. I didn't realise that Alex runs a wholesale bakery with her DH . Is there nothing that Alex cannot turn her hand to <impressed>.

It's turning out to be a good programme. She says dahhhhling slightly less in this than in The Hotel Inspector too.

Elaine was a real force to be reckoned with, why did she keep banging on about respect when she showed none else any? Poor Lou

Lou had such a good hair cut half way throughout he programme <shallow>

Everyone except Elaine could see that Lou was the woman for the job. I hope now that Ryan's wife has come on board that they can make a real go of things. The bakery looked like a fab building in a beautiful place, it had so much in its favour, would be sad if it's fortune didn't revive.

The festival looked quite good too and the bakery definitely shrugged off any frumpiness.

We bought pasties there in September (the veggie one was disappointing, I don't want sweetcorn and tomato in a pasty, just root veg and plenty of salt and pepper). The odd thing is we couldn't say for certain whether it was before or after the makeover (though I'm fairly sure before, I think the notices and pictures were still there), I just remember it being very small, so I waited outside while the purchase was made. Such a perfect location, I hope Lou and Co. do make a go of it.

Chough is funny but is also the national bird of Cornwall and lovely to see in real life, having returned form Wales after temporary local extinction, so very hopeful and appropriate really!

So can anyone tell me what exactly the son who lived in Wales did in this firm.

I did love Elaine's piece about how Lou needed to learn more skills before being capable of running the place, the only skill then mentioned being to listen to Elaine and do her bidding! (We could all be humbled by filming though I think).

Bit dubious about Alex's free advertising for her bakery, perhaps no different to the restaurants that feature on Masterchef etc but she's already a known presenter who shouldn't need to be bribed for involvement in her own series.

Molly, hmm, 'IT' apparently and I think accounts. I'd have been fascinated to see how they allocated wages to each role.

I think the makeover must have happened late September, from looking at the weather and the lack of crowds. Certainly wasn't painted that colour/with that awning at the beginning of September, because we were there. I'm sure I would have noticed as we tend to get buns/doughnuts there.

The son who lived in Wales seemed to be completely workshy. He really pissed me off tbh.

I think involving her own bakery was completely valid, it reinforced the point she knew what she talking about.

The son was a bloody liability! Basically living off mum and dad for little or no return. Family or not he should've been fired.

The son was sitting in front of a computer doing something, when being filmed anyway and at the beginning was the only one with a grip on the accounts. He just really wasn't a salesman. I did wonder how part time his role really is or needs to be.

On the free advertising, I remain dubious, the theme of the series is family businesses because Alex has that background but she does not have specialist knowledge of each type of business e.g. bridal shops last week. They've been careful about the Forte connections and I think saying 'we run this bakery, it supplies these restaurants and look, here's the name spelt out on the backs of the workers' t-shirts' was blatant advertising.

Love this programme although isn't Mary Queen of Shops a BBC2 programme? I'd rather watch Alex <girl crush> but they're essentially the same programme aren't they?

Have been to Padstow a good few times and have never gone into the Chough, always thought it looked a bit manky and went round the corner to another bakery instead. Would go in there now though, looked much better. We go in early June and it definitely wasn't done then.

I watched it with great interest, been there a few times before the makeover. Delicious pasties and I've used their mail order service too - I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned, unless I missed it?

I heart Alex Polizzi. No muss, no fuss, no irritating hairdo. She is miles better than the [ahem] unnamed competitor

Do pasties post well?

They're delivered refrigerated so it's £12 or so just for delivery, but I got 20 delivered for Father's Day and they were in perfect condition when they arrived. We ate a lot and froze the rest down. I got a selection and the cheese and leek ones were really good, best vegetarian ones I've ever tried.

TBH, I've only had the vegetarian ones.

I like them a lot.

Even though I'm going to Rock this summer, I don't think I will be going to Padstow. Long story.

I saw last week's ep on iplayer and there was more blatant advertising for Forte as she sent one of the staff to work at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester for a week. So in terms of plugs for the bridal one she went to visit her mother in the Forte head office, with all signage clearly displayed, to ask for advice. In the bakery one they went to her own bakery, and in the furniture one she was going to send the patriarch off to her own hotel in Devon for a few days, but the photo ops were ruined when he refused. I like the series but its on the BBC so the advertising should really stop.
