Last hopeful bump, before I conclude that I am, in fact, the oldest MNer in Glasgow.

Depending on age perhaps let them get the bus in and pick up especially inthe winter months.

I am at the state that some of the girls are in, like louminous dogs dinners, with skirts so thing they show g strings and all that perhaps I am a prude but my first thought was no fecking way .

Don't know about the unders these days - would assume they're pretty well supervised re; drink/drugs, etc.

BUT I am old enough to remember the unders at the Tuxedo Princess - no way would I let my DD (when she's old enough) go anywhere near

I used to hide in the loos and come out once the proper punters were in, no supervision, just bar men and doormen

Barmen knew but would only serve us soft drinks.

Ha,ha, we used to do that too. There must have been about 20 of us in there - so they must have known.

Think they're alot stricter nowadays (according to my nephew anyway).

There is a christian run one near us but the girls still look like hookers. DS has asked about going I said maybe not dear.

A Christian one - well you can't get any better than that surely.

Making own way back on a winters night trying to get back to a glasgow suburb. Oh I don't know I don't think I would let them.

Especially not if they have to go to the bus station to get their bus, have you seen the muppets there.

Buchanan Bus Station is NOT a place I would allow my young teen to hang about for an hour on a weekend night - however my late bus left from Argyle Street every 15 mins!

Aimsmum, I went to the "overs" from about 15/16 too!

In all seriousness MM, its all about how much you trust your dd and how responsible she is whether you let her go or not. I didn't get up to anything too naughty but there are alot of teens who will.

I would also talk to her about staying safe if she's making her own way home (not lurking around in town when they should be on their way home, making sure all the friends stay together, etc).

there are many buses around glasgow, so its not always a case of having to go to the bus station.

i started going proper clubbin (overs) 2 months after my 16th birthday (im now 23). my parents knew about it and let me go. i was sensible and would drink but never got into a drunken state. as long as we got on the bus (the number 40 goes right past my house) as soon as we got out everything was fine.

i never had fake id, but getting in was never hard. it got that when i turned 18 i got asked for id think the people on the door are much more clued up when asking for id.

i remember the unders was a case of having a wee drink of irn bru and having boys coming up to you sayin "u wanna nip ma pal?" oh the memories

good luck!

My DS is 13, and it's not an issue yet, but I've said I'll reconsider when he's 14. I used to go to Mardi Gras, Panama Jax and Tin Pan Alley when I was under age, but that was a LONG time ago!!

I passed the queue of "unders" in Queen St a couple of weeks ago - the girls looked like they were 21 and the boys looked like they were 12. I wasn't sure what age they were aimed at, but I think it must be about 14 and above.

I thought that collecting him would be a no-no - I just needed you lot to confirm that it wouldn't be a good idea even to suggest it.

I wont't let him go to Buch St bus station to come home - that's how I get home from work, and even at 8.30 - 9pm, it can be a frightening. I'm happy for him to get the train from QS tho. There seem to be more "official" adults at train stations than bus stations.

I do trust DS - he is incredibly sensible, but looks like a 18 or 19 year old, which isn't always a good thing. I'm glad to hear that clubs have got stricter re alcohol. I guess they won't do anything to put their licence at risk.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to live on a very small island with your teenagers - at least you'd know where they were and who they were with.

i think me and my friends started going about 14. it was more through the summer though so it was still light outside when it came to leaving time which i think was about 9pm.

i do agree though that walking through the town now all the girls definitly seem to dress well beyond their years. my mum would've never let me out the house in a wee skirt and top. Come to think of it though, it was never something i would wear anyway.

i remember aswell in archaos that all the beer taps had black bags over them and the bottles of sprirts were gone. even the fag machines were tapped up!! as i say, it was more the fun of going, and getting off with boys!!!

Mine haven't cottoned onto this yet. I am assuming that 'unders' means special sessions at nightclubs for underage children. I've only been in the area for 6 months, and I'd never heard of this down south.

And MrsMuddle - my ds2 is the same age as your ds so I suspect we're similar ages too - can we jointly be the oldest Glasgow area mumsnetters? And would you like to meet for a coffee sometime and we can compare teenager horror stories?
