here, from the Travelwrap Company

proper long and slouchy, none of this Pure Collection ankle sock malarkey

<<LTEC snuggles further into her travelwrap and rewrites entire Christmas shopping list, although wondering whether Mother in Law deserves lush socks or whether to let her bunions suffer the chill of another UK winter....>>

monkeysmama Thu 19-Nov-09 22:43:59

Are cashmere socks slippy when walking on wooden floors? And how do you wear your wrap? You make me laugh about your in laws. I like that you put not having to see them on your luxury Christmas list. I'll trade you my sil grin.

CHOOGIRL Thu 19-Nov-09 22:49:15

I'm wearing my White Company ones as we speak. Trying to decide whether I need aubergine Hunter boots. [I live in London and do not have a dog - where will I wear them?]

CHOOGIRL Thu 19-Nov-09 22:50:36

Choogirl needs to answer question. No they are not slippy on wooden floors.

Cake is there a discount code for the long socks?

LetThemEatCake Thu 19-Nov-09 22:54:07

hi mm - I don't find them slippy and I have a nearly-2yo ds who is built like a wombat and likes to take running dives to 'hug' (read - crash tackle) me around the knees ... mostly, though, I wear them after the dcs have gone to bed ... it's my nightly ritual of "now I can relax" ... yoga pants, cashmere socks, -bottle- glass of red wine...

I'm not one of these fabulously insouciant wrap wearers - where's Bobthewoodmouse?? I think she probably is - but I tend to just literally fling it around my shoulders with one end hanging over my back iyswim. It does wonders for the basic jeans and tee combo and is brilliant for warm, snuggly, discreet public breastfeeding. At home on the sofa, I wear it around both shoulders and clutch it around my front, most often with baby L snuggled up in it smile.

I have 2 sils - one lovely, one the devil incarnate. You can bloody well keep yours!!!!

LetThemEatCake Thu 19-Nov-09 22:55:47

hang on Choo - let me have a look on sheerluxe ...

re Hunter wellies - it rains here in London!! Puddles, Choo, puddles!! they line even the paths to Waitrose grin

cloudspotter Thu 19-Nov-09 22:58:10

I am knitting a pair of these, because I couldn't bear to pay the price. blush

They are coming on well, but I so want them now...

AngelinaJolly Thu 19-Nov-09 23:01:24

Choogirl- I have aubergine Hunter wellies and live in Cambridge. I love them. V comfy and warmer than you'd expect- they are lined with some knitted layer but they do cause bobbles on tights so need long socks or jeans. I wear mine in my (big) garden and for puddle-jumping w the DDs. smile

AngelinaJolly Thu 19-Nov-09 23:02:33

yy, disc on travelwrap would be great wink

monkeysmama Thu 19-Nov-09 23:38:00

I am going to buy myself some now. It is cold & I'm in a bad mood.

i find a pair from Tesco bought on the hottest day of the year does, htey are erm,, fluffy polyester i think

LetThemEatCake Fri 20-Nov-09 14:29:30

they come all beautifully gift-wrapped and in a box, too - much nicer if you're giving them as a pressie.

The Pure Collection ones (all of which I sent back) just don't look special. They're just packaged like supermarket socks, with just a band of cardboard around them.

Actually, I need to go and post this on the 'cashmere socks as pressie" thread

littledawley Sat 21-Nov-09 18:33:48

I've been trying to re-find this thread!!

letthem - are the travelwraps gorgeous? Thinking of getting one for MIL for Christmas.

Im going to open website that sells only 100% cashmere bedsocksgrin
Then will do 20% off for mumsnetters
Love cashmere socks, they are so comfy and warm

Sazisi Sat 21-Nov-09 20:18:11

I've been eyeing up this £25 pair here - hard to tell what the length is like though.

LetThemEatCake Sat 21-Nov-09 20:25:28

Don't do it Sazisi: aside from the length issue, they are only a cashmere mix so they'll be nowhere near as warm and silky as 100% cashmere, and they'll pill, to boot. Better to spend the extra few quid and get some better quality ones

littledawley - yes, the travelwraps are honestly heaven - both at home and out, I use mine as both dressing gown and stylish layer. I'd buy more in other colours if I could afford it (I have the charcoal)

God, how nice is your MiL?? I know so few who are worthy of such gorgeousness!

Sazisi Sat 21-Nov-09 21:55:46

Thanks Cake, I hadn't even noticed they weren't 100% shock
I'd best start saving then

monkeysmama Sun 22-Nov-09 22:13:31

I'd like some more information about the travelwrap which strikes me as far more sensible than the flash shoes I am thinking of putting on my Christmas list. How large is it? I've always fancied a proper wrap but it looks very blanketesque in some of the photos.

littledawley Sun 22-Nov-09 22:49:56

LOL Cake - it's not that she's super nice, just super wealthy so I can't really get her pressie at Aldi wink!!!

LetThemEatCake Sun 22-Nov-09 23:58:54

good thinking litteldawley <<rubs hands at thought of future spoils following MiL's sad but inevitable demise>>

MM - I know what you mean, I think some of the pics on the site do it no justice. It is big - big enough to be used as a blanket of sorts on planes and in armchairs - but so fine that it drapes and hangs around the shoulders really well, no bulking or looking 'messy'. What colour would you go for?

monkeysmama Mon 23-Nov-09 08:47:29

I think I'd go for the charcoal. My colour palette is pretty neutral - I wear black, grey and brown with the occasional green when I'm feeling daring! I may order it to try it.

I registered on sheerluxe btw. Haven't had a chance to have a browse but am looking forward to it when dd takes a nap and I've made myself a nice coffee.

LetThemEatCake Mon 23-Nov-09 09:20:15

Yes, give it a try, I think you'll live it. I have the charcoal too.

Fan that you registered on Sheerluxe, it will feed your passion for shopping no end. I write the High Maintenance Mummy feature (under features- yummymummydom) and also a blog (Sarah R) let me know what you think!

Have you got the travelwrap discount code? Will post again if not

abdnhiker Mon 23-Nov-09 18:30:43

LTEC how does the travelwrap compare with the quality of Brora or Johnstons? I'm very tempted and I've a birthday coming up where DH is willing to splurge a bit but I hate buying from an unknown company...

LetThemEatCake Mon 23-Nov-09 21:30:35

abdnhiker I don't know about Johnstons, but I compared with Brora and Pure before buying and imo the TWC was definitely the best. I also really like the fact that, until now with the launch of the bedsocks, travelwraps and 100% cashmere is all they do, rather than endless forays into every conceivable wardrobe item in every conceivable mix!!

I also love the fact that they have a conditioning service - so that if your wrap starts to look a bit too well-loved, they'll revive it - [[http://thetravelwrapcompany.com/uk/tw-conditioning.htm for £14) - you don't get that from the bigger companies.

Happy birthday!! hope your DH buys you something fabulous, either way
