Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

gingerly I got mine done in Newbury, but the price is a bit Newbury too - £35 for toes (includes all the pedicure stuff too but only takes about 20 min all in) this is the woman who does it, she's got all the minx designs on the website and will order designs in for you if you give her enough notice normally. Part of the pricing is that you can't get it anywhere else for miles.

I found they'd last a good 6 weeks, although I go around barefoot quite a lot and they rub off a bit if you wear shoes without socks. You can peel them off yourself in the bath but they might leave some residue - I just picked it all off, or if you get hooked then removal is part of the deal when you go back for another design. smile
I do the same with pirate plasters.

hi - its pickyvic under a new name btw - i got a bit of a shock when i took them off - thought they had ruined my toenails but im assured by the beauty therapist that its just the residue left from the glue! (it looks awful!)

ill have them done again but maybe not in the winter.

think they would be hard to do on fingers. you can overlook imperfections on your toe nails, and they are quite hard to get perfect.

i mentioned it to my beautician
think she thought i was mad

Wow I've never heard of this. I love the mirror ones in the link! I NOW WANT MINXED TOENAILS!grin
Anyone had them done on fingers ? I usually have gel overlays when I need good nails for an extended period for work, but a salon near me is doing minx now, and I thought it might be interesting to try

I've had mine on for about a month - getting them redone tomorrow. They don't use UV lamp just a small hairdryer. The big toe tends to lift first IME.

how long did it last for?
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 15-Jul-09 22:34:43
well - ive had it done today.

good news is its not a UV lamp, just an infa red one so no potential damage to skin..

and they look fab! really really!

ive got silver sandals so i had the silver fishnet design, metallic silver with a black cross pattern like fishnets....looks so good!

will definitely have it done again. this should last 6 weeks, you have to take it off with a hairdryer but ill go and have it done again in 6 weeks or so anyway. fancy the tartan ones next!
they seem a bit tricky to get perfect and i wouldnt have them on my fingernails because of that, but the toes really do look good.
Sounds great. Look forward to you reporting back vic when you have had them done.
Love the mirror ones also, a question though, will people be able to look up my skirt and see my knickers?? shock
I need want the mirrored toe nails too, somewhere in Edinburgh must do them?

LOoks great. Anyone know anywhere in north or central London you can get it done?
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Sun 05-Jul-09 17:52:40
ive been told it lasts about 6 weeks, but ive no idea how you get it off. its not gel or acrylic - its just like a sheet of plastic that gets cut to size and warmed with a UV lamp - ill tell you what they do when i have mine done - going for it doing on my toenails on the 15th july - ill be back with the low down!
this sounds fab.

Questions though, how long do they last, and how do they come off? Are they like gel nails or acrylic?

the others look like those awful patterns that people have painted on their fingernails

phone round some beauty salons - thats where im having mine done, and this is a very small town - about 4 salons and a nail studio! (and the nail studio dont do it yet)

i think its all quite new, but i bet it gets much more popular.
They don't do it down here and I want it done, would be great for my holiday.

ill make sure i ask that when i go for mine doing, ill ask about the UV, and if it damages the nail - but as far as i could understand its just like having your nails painted. its not something im planning on doing all the time. just thought it would be nice through the summer and for hols.

trinity im in a proper little backwater town so if we have it here then you can probably get it anywhere by now!

Sorry to dampen the excitment but saw an article in a glossy the other day with a doctor warning against using uv lamps for nail treatments. Apparently it is dangerous for same reason sunbeds are, as increases risk of skin cancer. It did state not to exceed x no. of sesssions per year but can't remember what the figure was sorry.
Can I ask a quick question please?

Does this damage your nails at all?

oooh I love the idea of this
I would suffer having my feet touched to have mirrored nails

is it so new that nowhere near my little scottish town will have it?
sounds similar to what a salon I used to go to were doing about years ago..
BUT they used a machine to project and seal the image onto your nail. Could have designs or pictures etc.

Not my cup of tea.I have gel nails done and must admit im boring and prefer the french look grin

its not bad....with a full pedicure its a tenner more so for me thats £23.50.

for just the minx doing without the pedi its usually £16 but they have to do all the cuticle work first....its on offer at my salon for £12 atm....

im quite looking forward to being minxed!

might even try it on the fingernails.

I like this! Can someone tell me how much it costs please?

I'm on my second set - I totally love them!! The first ones I had were the chrome ones, everyone needed to know where they were done. Lasted about 5 weeks including a beach holiday. I hate the way nail varnish feels on but these are so light you don't notice them at all. This time I went for tiny circles, v pleased with them and all the girls at DS's nursery are having them done soon!

Be excited, it's a nice thing to do for yourself and it's so new in this country that people really will stop you and ask about it, which is v marvellous for self esteem!

And have a great holiday grin

o sorry folks....

its like a sticker - they sort of melt it onto your nails under a UN lamp but some of the designs are fab!!!

you can get plain ones or really great patterns - like leopard print, or tartan. they look fab!

Get Your Nails Minxed … Beyonce Does!
by Jennergy on Apr 21st, 2009

I know what you’re thinking, “What the heck is ’minx’?” I’ll let you in on a super new trend in nail art that has been seen on the likes of Beyonce and between the pages of VOGUE. Its called Minx and its not nail polish but rather design decals that are heated and applied to toenails or fingernails. I learned about the trend from a friend who caught it on a TV news segment. According to the report, the process takes just as long as your usual mani/pedi and there are many pros to getting Minx nails as opposed to using regular polish.
Never heard of it.
