make upDo you think cheap MAKE UP is the same that expensive one, but without nice packing??

I have bougth a beauty case for storage, and it came with make up inside, that is obviously very cheap, because of the price; but reading the ingredients and comparing to other more expensive brands, it doesn't seem to have any nasties, even aloe vera and nice things. Do you think that the difference is that the expensive one last longer on??? I'm afraid of getting a reaction.

Don't know, really.

Some (eg Laura Mercier) expensive brands tend to be ground more finely, which makes a huge difference when it comes to older skin - it blends more easily and sits better on the skin.

That's not so much an issue if you have good skin, are in early twenties.

Rubie and Millie are a "cheaper" brand that is fantastic in this respect (imo). It just seems to apply really well.

As for the nasties - I really don't know. There used to be hideous scare stories, especially about the stuff used to make make-up glittery - either what was used or how finely that was ground. In my youth I had a hideous reaction to a metallic make-up - it seemed to scrape off a layer of my eyelids and puffed up my eyes for a week.

Clearly some "cheap" make-ups must be made to the same standard as more expensive brands, even by the same firms, there must be an element of buying name/packaging. But whether it applies in this instance, I really don't know.

with lots of colour cosmetics the more expensive ones contain more pigments so have a stronger colour and last longer

I have been told that borjois make-up is made from chanel overstock. Might be bolleaux though.

Bourjois is Chanel's diffusion line. So not exactly made up of old stock, but produced in the same factories and very high quality for a "cheap" brand as a result.

I can't say I have ever noticed that my Clinique make up (say eye shadow) stays on any longer than my Rimmel stuff really. I find cheap nail polishes are just as good. One of my best eye highlighting liquid eye shadows that I get loads of compliments about is that cheapo Miss Sporty range from Superdrug! The only things I tend to buy expensive brands on are foundation and mascaras and sometimes lip glosses.

I tend to buy good stuff, mac, ELaudeer, etc..., Gosh from superdrug is AMAZING, and Bourjois is great, and I always heard about their link with Channel. But I was about to bin these eye shadows from this beauty case that I have bought at Superdrug (COLOURWORKS, or something similar; I was interested just in the case..), but hesitate, 'cause the colours are georgeous, so, I don't know if give it a go? I'm scare of reaction, I don't mind if they don't stay long, Boots N7 they fade away so quickly, and the aplication......I don't like them at all(eye shadows),but lipglosses are great, I'm convinced are made by Lancome...
What about where the materials come from and how they get them, somebody mention that, I've never heard of that????

Now with nail polishes, I find it worth paying a bit more.

Being too slovenly busy to touch up my toenails as often as I should, I do find that the Chanel polishes last ages, but the price (recently gone up) is shocking really.

I agreed with you in nailpolish, even think the cheaper, the better..., Dior a rip-off, collection 2000, and NYK (superdrug), great.
I find eye shadows+mascaras, the most specific cases, for blending, staying, pigmentation, and obviously, very close to your eyes, for nasties!!!
best mascaras, for me, Dior +Clinique, fab.

Try it on the inside of your forearm before putting it anwhere near your face.

Generally the answer is no,these days but some imports may still have inferior ingredients.

Unless you are prone to allergies I wouldn't worry too much.

Hey Pinner4! I think Barry M do the best nail polishes and they are fairly cheap, they do almost every colour you need! I find as long as I put their base/topcoat on it's rock hard and takes ages to get off. I've not tried that NYK brand yet but maybe i'll give it a go!

I've never tried Channel, I've heard good about eye pencils, but not so good about foundations-powders, a few comments about causing break-outs. I've used to work in cosmetics, high end, and people come with bad skin, a few mention that, after using them.

Hi pinner. I like Chanel foundation as well, can't remember which one - lumiere something I think. People always say I look well when I am wearing it. (Try not to think how I look at other times!) Not had noticeable problems with breakouts so far touch wood...

I think cheap nail varnish is better than expensive. Rimmel is the best, and its about £3 a bottle.

Foundation, I would def. say get the best you can.

-Bluebump, NYK are about £3 each, and fab colours+long stay, resistant.
TAlking about where are made, I have some eyeshadows from Rimmer :
-Palette with 15 colours (China)
-Single-doubles (europe)
It looks the more you pay, the "european" the provider -I must say, Touch eclat made in Japan, great for cosmetics....

WEll, MRSseanbeand, I'll try Channel, it looks very stylish, the cases, I like powder (oily skin), so look great for retouch!

I think the well known cheaper brands (Rimmel, No17 etc) are fine, but would steer clear of anything without a specific name on it.

I was gven an eyeshadow palette from Primark as a Christmas present and it made my eyes water for hours on end. Shame as it had a nice reange of colours and went on beautifully.

I tend to buy Boots No7 as it is at the cheap end of the more luxury cosmetics and it suits my (getting towards) middle aged skin and is good quality and the packaging is quite slick.

agree- sometimes you simply ARE paying for the packaging and the assistants who sell you the stuff.

L'Oreal is made by E Lauder I think, and is a quality range though still cheap.

I love both Laura Mercier and Prescriptives blusher- powder blushers. Both are very "fine" and blend easily. In comparison, Boots No 7 looked like I had shovelled it on, and I just can't find enough colours in the cheaper ranges- I am very pale.

I tend to go for cheaper lip glosses - L'Oreal for instance-as they last about 10 seconds - but pay for items like foundation (clinique), blusher- see above, concealer - Bobbi Brown - and mascara that lasts- Lancome.

Eye shadows and I am happy with L'Oreal or similar.

it's a good point not having a name on that, I just don't understand how can be that cheap, more than 10 eye shadows, a few nailp., lipsticks, brushes, beauty case, bouble handbag mirror,...£20!!!!

L'oreal is from the Lancome group, I used to work for them, so well know....and somethings, better than the others.
If you look for goodstaying gloss, try Boots n7, i'm not a fan of the brand, but the glosses, are fab, they stay for ages, even once at the restaurant, I notice two of the waitress looking at me, and talking: before I left, they asked me which gloss I wore, 'cause they see me eating, and staying intact!!!. I must say, that they change the packing, now they come in like a pen shape, when I bought them, they were in tubes, the same that lancome (I really belive, lancome juicy tubes were the same, packing, texture, even colours!!!!) But I don't know if they change manufacturer with the packing, or just that.
-Is really good B.BROWN concealer? I've dark circles, quite dark, nothing works very well. It is the one with the little mirror&powder on top?

I didn't know L'Oreal was the same as the Lancome group. I do know that Clinique is the sister brand to Estee Lauder though, the more natural non scented version etc (can't think of the right word for what I mean!)

I love Bobbi Brown concealer- onto my 3rd pot! I first was sold the one with the powder in as well, but TBH I don't use powder as I use the concealer on under eye shadows not spots etc.

Yes, it's in a tiny black tub with a mirror on top- lasts me 4-5 months I'd say- really brightens the under eye circles and doesn't crease or dry out
