Best posh hairdressser in London please?

Thoroughly bored with my current style (think Princess D short layered bob)- going to let it grow slightly. still keep it ear lobe length, but might treat myself to a new look sometime if money allows.

Would you got to Andrew Collinge, Charles Worthington, John Frieda ( friend used to go there but not for year now )...any more?

Also, if you have been to those salons do you have THEM or can you recommend a stylist there?

No help I'm afraid apart from being extremely , I followed my £80 hairdresser, originally from Vidal Sassoon for years, but this sahm-ing ain't as lucrative as I was hoping so those days are gone, I am going the budget route for the first time in years.

I haven't got the £££s yet, but would like ONCE in my life to have someone take a look at me and suggest something that might look great! I currently pay £70-ish locally for a cut & dry- I am not unhappy with how she cuts, but it's always ME suggesting what I'd like- and I would like someone to look at my face shape and hair and say "This is YOU!".

I have very thick curly hair. The best hairdresser I ever had charged £6 for a cut (about 8 years ago), because she understood curly hair. Worst haircut was Vidal Sasoon in Leeds, and Toni and Guy told me that they "don't do curly hair" !

two women independent of each other used to come into my work and i asked them both once who cut their hair and they both went to steven - nice australian guy who does PERFECT hair. i don't live in london anymore so sadly had to find a new hairdresser but from memory it was about £60 for a cut but that could be more than i paid, can't remember. would absolutely recommend him.

I used to go to Christina at John Frieda and she did a good job, but this was years ago when I was young and single so she may no linger be there, but their training is excellent and I would highly recommend (I went to the salon just off Park Lane, behind the Dorchester hotel.. can't remember the street).

Derek Thomson at Michealjohn was also excellent but £££s (I think he is still in Albermarle St branch).

Trevor Sorbie in Covent Garden are fantastic. Very friendly too. Their top guy won Hairdresser of the Year this year. Their prices range from about £50-100ish for a cut and blow-dry. Probably a lot more for Trevor himself! Can personally recommend Tiziana, I started going to her years ago when she was nearer the bottom of that price scale, now sadly she is at the top! Worth it though.

Dan at Pierpoint Hairdressing in Archer St Piccadilly. Not a well known 'brand' hairdresser but really really good.

I used to go to Jo at Lee Stafford, she used to be at Charles Worthington and she is FABULOUS.

Michael Van Clarke (Beaumont Street off Marylebone High Street) is a great salon - ring them up and ask for one of their top stylists - they are all really good - but we are talking mega-bucks

Used to go there when I lived and worked in London ... used to be about a quarter of my monthly salary so a cut had to last about four months !!! Not sure I could afford them nowadays even if I didn't live abroad ...they do lots of celebrities but it is NOT a celebrity salon iyswim ...it's much more discreet than that and they even welcome humble 'normal' people ....!

Mark at the Chapel in Islington. He is also ex Charles Worthington and Lee Stafford. Have gone to him for 8 years - he's marvellous

In years gone by I used to have my hair cut in Selfridges - a franchise I think now - but they were always good, and helpful with suggestions. Ironically now have the best hair style I've ever had, from a small, local salon with 2 staff and the cheapest ever! Money isn't always the answer!

just cos they charge a fortune doesnt mean they are good

find a friend whoese hair cut you admire and ask her

or

look for a busy salon. always a good sign

I've just been to the Vidal Sassoon training academy just off Oxford St - cost me £12 (same price if you want colour). Was used for a demo so got a proper experienced stylist, but so were all the people watching. Excellent cut but takes up to two hours - kept me out of the shops . Only a fiver if you have a student card.

Had my hair cut once by Andrew Jose in Charlotte Street - was brilliant. You could ring the salon or pop in and ask for a recommendation.

Andrew Macmillan (?) at Macmillans in covent garden - whoever the guy that owns it is - the best haircut i ever had and he does not charge as much as likes of trevor sorbie, etc but he is supposedly of the same vintage! think those famous ones charge about £200+.
