Too old for pinafore dresses?

Be honest with me! I've seen a few pinafore dresses around that I really like, but I'm 37 and size 14/16 and I'm worried I will look like I'm trying to dress like my 7 year old daughter. Will I be able to get away with it do you reckon?

I thought you were going to ask about your primary school aged child, not yourself.

I clicked on the thread as I was wondering if dd age 8 has grown out of them Grin.

Lottapianos · 01/09/2015 14:28

Well I''m 35 and I was seriously considering buying one the other day. What stopped me was wondering whether my 30HH boobs would be contained properly in one, not my age Smile

I think they're lovely. I would wear one with a long sleeved top in a bright contrasting colour, loud lipstick and brogues or high tops, so no chance of getting mistaken for an 8 year old!

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/09/2015 14:29

I have two, wore a grey denim one yesterday in fact, the other is navy.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/09/2015 14:31

Meant to say, am 37, size 10

amarmai · 01/09/2015 16:11

i'm mid 70s and still wear them - they are timeless. I can/will not admit how many i have! The jersey knit ones are so comfortable . I'm thinking about a check tweed one or a wide wale corduroy one for the fall- maybe both? Go for it -you will get decades of use out of them.

Ladymoods · 01/09/2015 17:04

Thanks everyone. It's a cord one that I'm looking at, I really like it so I think I will go for it. I love autumn/winter!

34 here and I've got a denim one and a black cord one, i wear with long sleeve tops underneath and like the retro vibe , i don't think I'm too old and if i am i don't really care.

legolegolego · 01/09/2015 20:02

I've got a black denim one and have my eye on a mustard cord one!

MrsMummyPig · 01/09/2015 21:03

Are they all short? I would love a denim or cor one but I'm a plus size and would need to cover my huge fat knees too.

CambridgeBlue · 01/09/2015 21:09

I love pinafores - where is the one you're considering?

mewkins · 01/09/2015 21:34

There's a denim midi one in topshop that looks lovely (reckon it would be normal length rather than bottom skimming). I like them a lot and don't think they are toddler wear necessarily.

NoisyOyster · 01/09/2015 21:35

Ooooh links please, I love a good pinafore!

mewkins · 01/09/2015 21:46

m.topshop.com/h5/product?productId=20627140 is the one I like.

Greengardenpixie · 01/09/2015 22:49

I love pinafore dresses and i am 47. I have a fair few!!! Timeless.

MrsMummyPig · 01/09/2015 22:54

I like this rather plain casual one from Seasalt but I think it's a bit summery. Would be great if they did it in cord or a heavier denim for winter.

Unless you're planning to wear one with ankle socks and pigtails I don't see the problem.

penny13610 · 06/09/2015 18:27

www.tallyarns.co.uk/collections/smocks/products/layercake-weavers-apron I love this one, I even bother to iron it.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 06/09/2015 18:28

They are fantastic for hiding a wobbly belly.

Hopefully · 06/09/2015 19:15

I think if they suit you they look fabulous and timelessly cool. If, like me, they don't, they look shit from age four upwards. I love pinafores, they don't love me.
