Is there such a thing as flared (bootcut style) leggings?

BIL's GF is pregnant, so I'm hoping to have a wedding to go to soon. Grin I've got rather a flattering beaded linen kaftan top, which is long enough that I need to wear trousers, as I'd just look massive otherwvery well-endowed and still bf).

Bootcut jeans do suit me, but obviously aren't for a wedding. Does anyone know of any jersey leggings, beaded or not (I can do that), or even jeggings which play down the jeans side (no denimy stitching).

Ideally in navy, though other jewel colours wpuld work, or I could try dyeing white ones.

Without you Viper Mavens, I shall have to make some! Shock

I've got a black pair that I got in M&S a few years ago; they are a thicker jersey type material though.

Would you not be better with some straight legged ones though; would look dressier I think?

I've got some yoga pants like that fom sweaty Betty but nt sure they're smart enough for a wedding.
I think M&S do a smarter version in quite a few colours.

I used to have some like that, from Sweaty Betty I think.

I don't think leggings are very appropriate for a wedding, sorry, and the idea of bootcut leggings is straight out of the 90s.

[viper] Sorry.

Not even beaded, Amazinggg Blush

lackaDAISYcal, I reckon straight-legged ones would make me look rather heavier round the thighs and middle, sort of the reason I don't wear skinny jeans.

Agggh! What goes with a kaftan/tunic, then?

I'll have a look at SweatyBetty, thanks MaryKatharine and SofaCanary

I was just going to say I had several pairs in 1996!

Sorry!

You are very organised, buying your wedding outfit when the couple aren't even engaged yet.

I'm calling joke thread on this and the Charlie and the Crocolate Factory one.

If they don't get married, at least I will have a nice outfit for a change. Not sure whether there will be a christening, as the families cross the Catholic/Orthodox divide. And the preponderance of forriners surely means I'll get away with things now beyond the pale in the UK?!

pookamoo, I imagined the beaded bit would be backed by interlining, so a more structured flare than just jersey. No?

The first sentence alone makes me suspect this thread is dodgy, too, but:

Bootleg leggings: I wore them to a school disco in 1998. Never since. Hideous, hideous things.

Christ, I hope no one bought a wedding outfit when I got pregnant. That was 16 years ago and still not married.

In linen, then? It's just that linen trousers are generally so wide at the top of the leg that I''m going to look terrible with such a top.

Ouch. Actually, not that ouch. I thought S&B mavens were very hot on what suits someone, rather than what's fashionable/accepted. Witness the bra intervention threads.

Why is this a joke thread?

I'm thinking joke.

What I meant by my previous comment was that I have never seen beaded leggings anywhere (bootcut or not) and had I missed something very odd ?

Have you seen everything there is to see, pookamoo?

It's not a joke thread, but I guess I'm going to have to make them myself (unless Sweat Betty/M&S suggestions pan out).

Thanks, all. Smile

Why not get some smart cigarette style trousers?
What is your body shape? Are you sure about the kaftan? If you're large of nork, I can't see how it would work.
Surely fitted top and full A line skirt would balance you out better?

No, I'm sure I haven't. And I am the last person to give s&b advice

I just thought that you came here asking "Is there such a thing" and the answer seems to be "no".

In my limited experience it seems that all the shops everywhere have the same stuff in them anyway. Beaded leggings don't seem to feature anywhere, so yes, I guess you will have to make them, if that is what you really want to have. Smile

I can however see your BIL's DP coming on here soon saying "AIBU to think it slightly odd that DP's SIL is buying a wedding outfit and we're not even engaged yet"... which will be a whole other thread! Grin And I mean that lightheartedly.

Oh, I'm not telling the family about the wedding outfit! Just MN ("Family" omerta instead of simple discretion Grin)
