Beetlejuice!! - Please help me find a vintage mens swimsuit

My googling has failed me sad

We are going on a pool based holiday in 6 weeks, but DH is very self conscious of his body and hates going topless in the water.

We thought this would be fantastic - or a kind of Edwardian bathing suit

Beetlejuice

But I can only seem to find suggestions as to how to make one, or a fancy dress shop based in Brighton which has a cut that seems a bit baggy.

Does anyone have an idea where I can source one, or has anyone come up with different solutions?

Many thanks

No idea I'm afraid! Sorry.

Would a rash vest do?

here (random choice of shop)

Rash vest rather than beetle juice type thing definitely!

Could he just wear a t shirt in the water ?

Thank you for all the responses, unfortunately dh doesn't have the build to pull off a rash vest, broad shoulders and a belly that's lost weight but is quite large.

He wanted something as a one piece so that he doesn't get constantly asked why he has his T shirt on.

I think that kind of a onesie would get more comments than a tee tbh grin

What about some kind of surfing type suit? You get short ones.

I think rash vest would attract far less attention than Victorian bathing suit tbh - dh often wears his in outside pools

They don't have to be tight fitting - www.surfdome.com/oakley_rash_vests_-_oakley_ellipse_short_sleeve_loose_rash_vest_-_jet_black-116405

Any lick? If not, try The Chap website? I reckon if you can't find one on there then they don't exist..

Any lick? sorry , how rude! meant Luck..

Not yet grin - but i'm not giving up!

He's quite an exhibitionist really, so wearing something outlandish doesn't bother him, but the belly bothers him a lot - especially the stretchmarks.

Its not brilliant as he never wants to go swimming with us in a "public" place. The holiday has a private family pool with just family members coming, but he still doesn't want his chest uncovered.

I suppose it's a bit like the only swimsuits being available are bikinis - are you're constantly questioned why you're not wearing one.

Ah, if attracting attention in general isn't an issue, how about this: based in US but 6 weeks should be do-able. www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/vict_mens_29.php

Ha, and these guys had a range made via gentleman's emporium which are almost exactly what you are looking for ... they say pre-ordering for May 16th, so not sure if they've sold out already... robert-from-ap.livejournal.com/658545.html

Ah, those last links are 2011, so maybe out of stock now grin

MrsLettuce Wed 19-Jun-13 20:01:01

Well, you could see id Get Cutie would do him one, it's not something they sell but, well, it'd be worth asking.

oohaveabanana - Thank you! those are brilliant!!

I think i'll have to have a trawl through steam punk themes and see if I can find anyone UK based.

Late breakfast , that looks really good - they only size as an extra small, but definitely gives me something to work with!
