Can anyone inform me about hair extensions?

I brought some clip in hair extensions recently having also used them in the past. We went out recently with me wearing them and I've had some really lovely comments from people after the photos went on facebook.

I'd love long beautiful hair but what I've actually got is really crap fine hair that won't grown past shoulder length without looking like rats tails. I'm happy to clip in the extensions but I'm wondering now about having more permenant ones done. Does anyone know how much they are, how much upkeep they take and how often they need re-doing? Also do they wreck your normal hair even more?
Ta x

I've had human and synthetic ones in the past sweetheart. I have incredibly fine/slow-growing hair and hoped these would be the answer to my prayers. They really pulled though, probably due to the weight of the extensions -v- very fine hair and they didn't seem to hold very well either. One or two fell out within a week and I found them laying on my pillow like rats tails!

Both sets were bonded around my own hair and when I had them taken out, the condition of my own was diabolical. Split, dry, strawey and breaking where the bonding glue (or whatever it is they used) was. I had to get my hair cut quite short both times to deal with the shitty condition. Saying all that though, it was a long time ago (15 years) so if they have a new way of securing them that has improved on what was done back then, then it might be do-able. I've not looked into it again as these two attempts really put me off.

I know extensions can be sewn in too and wonder if that would be less damaging. If you love the look of your clip-in ones it is really worth finding out if you could have more permanent ones. Asking in a salon though, it's hard to get un-biased advice. Hope someone with more recent experience comes along to answer your questions.

I have extensions I am also a hairdresser. My hair is really fine so I have cold keratin fusion which are bonded without heat. They do not damage my hair as I keep them for less than the 3 months and only have a similar weight of hair added, so no pulling.

I've had the individual bonded ones which were really heavy and uncomfortable.

Also had some that were on a strip (like clip ins). Not sure how they were attached (can't remember) but they were much easier to look after and comfy. Hair wasn't damaged either.

If you are in London or north London counties I will happily recommend the girl who did mine. I've had 3 sets from her and they've all been fabulous. Looked great and my hair hasn't suffered at all

Orchid, I'm not too far out of London. Would you mind telling me how much they are and how often you need to have them done?
