I'm loathe to use the term style icon because it's one that's bandied round far too easily. In my opinion, you can only really be an icon when you're deceased - Kate Middleton, Alexa Chung and Victoria Beckham are not icons. (In Alexa's case, considering all the clothes she gets given, it's to be expected she dresses vaguely well. (Not to my taste though.) As for icons, Audrey Hepburn is considered to be one, although not one of mine, I'll take Katherine H over Audrey H any day.
So, I guess what I'm curious to know is whose style do you admire. Is there anyone you want to emulate or when you find yourself shopping for clothes, is there someone you have in mind?
I love the way Sofia Coppola, Giovanna Battaglia and Laura Bailey dress, indeed, I when shopping, I often find myself wondering if Sofia C would wear it (I think I owe my navy obsession to her). Presently, and thanks to Vogue's 'What I'm Wearing Today', I'm wanting pretty much everything Katie Hillier owns/wears.
I'm sure there are more but until then, whose style do you admire/want to emulate?
Nancy Cunard
Juliette Greco
Iris Apfel
I'll never look like them, but I admire their style.
Cher Horowitz. It still works.
I am loathe to say Kristen Stewart as she is such a sour faced caaaah, but I do love her style. V irreverent, slightly dramatic. She has a similar body shape to me (albeit approximately half the width).
Debbie Harry circa 1979, Solange Knowles now.
If I were in my 20s I would have said the incredibly cool Betty out of Le Blog de Betty
Eva Green.
Zooey Deschanel. I love the quirkiness and would happily have her wardrobe.
Tilda Swinton -- always looks amazing, and not like anyone else.
Camilla Batmanghelidjh -- absolutely recognisable and individual.
The ladies on Advanced Style, heroines of style.
I think I read somewhere that Emilia Fox's RL wardrobe is often used in Silent Witness.
I admire Laura Bailey, Kate Moss, Helena Christiansen, SJP but in her "Carrie" guise. It's the effortless chic associated with them which appeals to me and that they are stylish rather than trend followers.
I find VB's style way too uptight. She always looks far better in more relaxed clothing than those excruciating looking heels and pencil skirts.
I also like Olivia Palermo but there appears to be such a huge amount of grooming required for that look and my 42 year old slightly scruffy blonde locks just don't do "groomed".
Yes, love Cate Clanchett.
I know Emilia Fox is very popular, I'm not so keen. I think her hair is the wrong colour, or something about her is not quite right.
Emilia Fox always looks lovely, both in Silent Witness and RL xx
yep Cate Blanchett is great.
Yes, Hobbitation, you know - not too much flesh on show, just getting on with life and looking really strong and happy. Cate Blanchett and Emilia Fox do strike me like that too.
Very feminine, not trying too hard, and not trying to be sexy.
I agree, I admire anyone like that. I don't read women's magazines so is hard for me to think of current examples but Cate Blanchett and Emilia Fox always look pretty good to me.
I like myleen klass. Not necessarily what she wears but the fact that she wears things that suits her shape but isn't over groomed and still looks like she can run around after her children.
My style icons are from way back. Julie Christie, Susannah York, Lesley Caron. They all seemed to look so free and un-self-conscious (is that a word?). Very feminine, not trying too hard, and not trying to be sexy.
Grace Kelly, Dita von Teese old school glamour I love and can watch those old movies for hours drooling over the clothes.
Nicole Ritchie. YY to Olivia P and Miranda Kerr also.
Kristen Stewart, Miranda Kerr and Carine Roitfeld.
There's no one that I'd like to emulate but I do love kate moss. I love the way she always looks so effortless and wears what she wants rather than what a stylist tells her to wear. I cannot stand the contrived look of VB who IMO always look too try hard and I agree that alexa is not that stylish considering she has a stylist. I often wonder how half these celebs would really dress themselves if they didn't have freebies and stylists.
I think Katherine Hepburn was beautiful, love her, she had her own unique style.
Audrey was absolutely stunning, but there is something about Katherine that I love.
Olivia Palermo, yes, love her style, and she is beautiful. As is Miranda Kerr, and her style. Unfortunately, I don''t have their body shapes so i can't emulate them (tho' I try, with various disasters results!). I tend to look for people with a similar body shape to mine, so currently looking at Scarlett Johannsen.
Yy to Kristen Stewart, she wears some amazingly cool stuff - why you would look so miserable in it, especially having got it (i assume mostly) free, i can't fathom!
I'd also kill for most of Nicole Sherzinger's (sp?) wardrobe, tho god knows how I'd ever fit into where I would wear it
Nikki from silent witness.
Kate moss Helena Christensen Lauren Hutton Kate Hudson daphne guiness
I'd like Nigella's collection of Westwood dresses.
Audrey Hepburn = perfection, but I'm too curvy and scruffy to ever get her look.
Rachel Weiss (sp?) seems to have good taste - v simple clothes and then that beautiful face.
