I am getting my hair cut tomorrow. I have been growing it long for ages but now I am wondering why.

I am 39. Is it time I had it all cut off?

Really I want it permed or the modern equivalent with soft curls/waves - keeping it longer of course - but my hair dresser said no to perming but I can't remember why.

Perming damages you hair. I had one when it was all the rage in the eighties.
I too have been growing hair for a few years now, it was really short but is just past shoulders, after all that effort it would be a shame to cut it all off. Get advice from your hairdresser for a new style that suits your hair and face, sometimes a few layers gives it more body and life

Get a BBH for soft curls and waves and just get long layers cut in

I really want mine cut too - it's getting too long and I feel it's 'dragging me down' iykwim.
Not sure about a perm - i only had one once and regretted it straight away.
Could you not curl it with straighteners/ curling tongs?

I have straighteners (DH likes it straight) but have no idea how to use them to make curls. I am pretty useless at anything to do with my hair really.

I don't even know if my hair has layers, I have the feeling I was growing it all one length. I am really clueless.

To curl you hair with straighteners clamp a section of hair as usual them turn your hand outwards so the irons are at 90 degrees to your head (like when you curl ribbons with scissors) and run through as normal, it does fab ringlets.

.

.

There are hundreds on there if you google 'youtube hair tutorials.' Might give you some idea as to what you can do with your hair while it's long.

And don't worry about your age - what matters is what suits your face shape. I'll never have short hair as it would look hideous on me.

Don´t cut it unless you want to.

I think short hairstyles can be aging.

I used to think that I shouldn´t have long hair past 30.

It´s shoulder length, so not too long, and I´m now nearer to 50!

Thank you. I will just have it tided up. My hairdresser seems less than keen to curl my hair.

I'm off and I feel sick. That probably has more to do with the fact I dreamt that DH was having or about to have, an affair with someone who is friends with the neighbours and he was being bloody awful and was turning ds1 against me. Plus I have cried before now when my hairdresser has asked me how I am and I have been in a bad way. I want to cancel Hmm.

I am back. I decided to have it straightened and it looks really good. I didn't have to lose much length either so I am happy Smile.

Any chance of a pic?Grin

Glad you´re happy with it.

It´s horrible when you´re looking forward to a visit to the hairdresser & you end up not liking the result, isn´t it?

No pic I'm afraid.

I am rubbish at doing my hair and think there is no point really as I am very plain and just stay at home all day.

Er snap out of that at once young lady! Lots of us are plain and SAHMs but you gotta fight it!
As you get older there's enough people treating you like you're invisible - I've decided to stop obliging them and so should you.
