For the love of god, find me a dress I can get my boobs out of.

I am nearly 4 months postpartum (if it really needs qualification, that means I'm still carrying the vast majority of my baby weight and am nearly 11 stone at 5'2", gah) and bizarrely, am acting as Godmother to the DD of a friend of mine in mid-May.

Aside from losing three stone miraculously before then (not going to happen, I'm one of those women who hoard weight while breastfeeding), is there anything I can do to make myself presentable at this numinous event? (I should probably consider converting to, um, Christianity too, while I'm at it, being an atheist Godmother-to-be, but that's an entire other can of worms, probably on AIBU.)

Basically, I need a presentable dress that I can hoick my boobs out of. Probably one with a wrap top or similar. Ideally, it would be something I could flop about in for the rest of summer (Christenings aren't as Smart as weddings, right? I don't have to get dolled up in a mega-posh Outfit, do I?), and while I know I'm not going to find something with breastfeeding flaps , something I can breastfeed in without taking off the whole top part would be good. I can wear a shawl or wrap at the Christening to shield the masses from my wrinkled old lovebags, I suppose.

All I've found so far is this, which you'll probably say isn't dressy enough. No, not even with little strappy sandals and an oyster-coloured wrap? Sad I do quite like it, and can wear it the rest of summer, assuming it doesn't showcase my fat back and muffin top.

Any advance on Boden? White Stuff totally useless - necklines won't allow boob/baby interface.

I've got that dress. I wear it to work, with a jacket (at the mo - will ditch the jacket when it's proper summer) and think it would be fine for a Christening, with nice shoes and a wrap. However, I don't think you'd be able to breastfeed that easily in it. It's got a crossover, sure, but there's not enough give in it to easily flop your boobs out. Also, I tend to wear a little vest top under it, as it's just a bit too low to be decent without (model on photo clearly has no boobs. I have DDs and would probably get sacked if I turned up at work in it.... then again, I do teach at a secondary school, and hate to think what the teenage boys would do with so much gratuitous tittage on show)

When I say DDs, I mean 36DDs - not making an odd reference to my daughters.

MoonGirl1981 · 07/04/2011 18:35

Ooooo, that dress is lovely!!

Perfectly fine for a christening with nice shoes, cardigan and bag (maybe pick out the pinks in the dress?)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 18:46

Ah you see, this is exactly the sort of insider knowledge I was hoping for. I searched the reviews for that dress, and do you know? not one person commented on the boob-hoickage potential.

And a cami underneath too? Sad Probably about rules it out for me then, one of the joys of breastfeeding being that the bras are so high-cut that they start just underneath the chin.

Boys would probably eat out of your hand, but not sure I'm allowed to even think that. Grin

Lurve the first link, though wonder if lack of print will highlight my bumps and lumps. Second, not so much - bit dark, and not summery enough. Thanks, will try to drop by a Monsoon. Grin

I wore the Monsoon cherry wrap dess to work today! Plenty of room for large breasts and would be easy to slip one out I think.

MikeRotch · 07/04/2011 18:51

whats the comulsion to a dress?
why not wear a top adn trousers

loose flowy top statement necklace and amazing shoes

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 18:55

Could wear top and bottom - bum/thigh frankly too large to contemplate most trousers (godIneedtoloseweight), and I don't really want to spend on something I'm not going to wear much. Did you have a particular type of trouser in mind, Mike?

Liking the loose flowy top and statement necklace. have always fancied on of those.

OP posts:
ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 19:05

See, I don't buy trousers unless they're jeans. I just prefer frocks. Smile

Um, I like the earrings? Grin Sorry, none of that is really me, though am vv grateful for any hints, really. The silk top is gorgeous but I have very little in the way of a neck and am concerned that my incipient wattle/double chin area would clutter up the beautiful assymettry of it.

OP posts:
MikeRotch · 07/04/2011 19:08

so you dont like the trousers?
have you none?
just bung a top on and some heels
i dont get the dress hting, they never keep you warm, do all teh tights hassle etc

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 19:13

Honestly, I don't have any, apart from jeans! Have been a SAHM for 3 years so wear what I like, not what I have to, used to wear non-jeany trousers vv rarely at work (was feckless academic-type, they don't give a toss what you wear really) but it wasn't really my thing. Prefered skirt and top and boots.

Trousers just looked too tight and, well, pale for a size 16 arse to be crammed into. But I WILL try some trousers (mostly they have to be taken up too, since am shortarse. 5'2".) when I'm out looking for this outfit.

cybbo · 07/04/2011 19:14

If you DO go for the Boden one you linked to in your OP at least go for a block colour not a ditsy print

Wear bold coloured shoes and a clashing cardi and big earrings

no wrap
no strappy sandals

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 19:18

Gah. It's all very hardline here.

NO prints at all? Sad Might have known I'd get this block-colour-facism on S&B. Grin

That is so much out of my comfort zone my ears are popping, but ok. Will see what I can do. Am just worried about horrible muffin top flapping all over the place. Ditsy prints can go a way to stop that looking so obvious.

these bright shoes

bright coral cardi

over purple dress

avec danglers

cybbo · 07/04/2011 19:21

Meh, wraps just do nothing. By all means take one to cover boobs when feeding but it shouldnt be part of outfit IYSWIMIMVHO

And get coral shoes, not blue ones

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 19:26

Oh. Was going to say, I liked the blue shoes. Grin

Thanks, Cybbo. Like the cardi.

OP posts:
cybbo · 07/04/2011 19:26

Ok I'll let you get the blue shoes

cybbo · 07/04/2011 19:28

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 19:28

Yup. Saw it. Smile

Reshape - I've just go this dress and whilst it is not going to be on the front of Vogue it is pretty to wear and is very forgiving of lumpy bumpy stomachs and would be easy to bf in (got it for a wedding when I'll be child free but might need easy access to pump depending on how long we are gone [dd3 is 18m so supply very settled]).

I'm normally a 16 top (36E/F) and 16/18 bottom so ordered a 14/16 bottom and it is plenty big enough so I would size down if possible.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 07/04/2011 21:11

Ta, truthsweet - I like the brown! Will bear that one in mind. Thanks for sizing tips - I must be about the same size.

OP posts:
TruthSweet · 07/04/2011 21:14

I went with the purple as I have reddish brown hair and whiter than white skin so thought it would go (it does Smile). I am a fair few inches taller than you but it is only just below knee length on me. Nice weight to the fabric too

Came really quickly in the post as well. Rather impressed.

TheAllNewOoooh · 07/04/2011 22:03

Grecian number - nice with the right colouring

TheAllNewOoooh · 07/04/2011 22:05
