Babyliss Root Boost - anyone got one?

this bad boy

They get excellent reviews on Amazon. They are a mini-crimper that does a fine crimp at the roots of the under layers of hair (i.e not the top layer that we see) which seems to have an amazing effect on root volume.

Only £25 or so, not a huge risk. I think I might get one and see. Anyone got one? Does it do what it says on the tin? Amazon reviews seem to think so...

I am really skilled (after plenty of practice) at curls, waves, etc with GHD's, and can get a bit of root lift with them, and I'm pretty good with a blow dry these days, round brushes etc, that gives me the best root lift but very time consuming - I'd much rather be able to wash my hair whenever I want and let it dry naturally, and only have to style it in the morning, not wash AND style (school runs, etc, like to not take longer than half an hour tops to get ready for the day)

This might be just the thing...

Well, I went and got one and I've had a quick play with it on my hair which today is pretty flat and greasy.

Amazing!

I only did one side - and only a fairly small section of that side, but it really really does add root lift by adding bulk to the little bit of hair you crimp. Its not lumpy though. I love it!

I'm thinking if I can get the root lift I want I can wear my hair straighter than I have been - I tend to go with curls or waves for the volume I want but I think this might be the answer!

Yay - I would definitely recommend this, for under £30, its pretty low risk and I dont know about you but I have a drawer full of "volumising" type products some of which work and some which dont (Louise Galvin one is the best but £££)

I'll report back again when I've done it properly, then had a night out and then slept on it, and tell you how it looks the next day!

I've been wondering about this, so am keen to hear your review!

Right, well I washed my hair yesterday afternoon and I thought I'd have a little play with this once it was dry. I did a quick few waves of the end of my hair with the GHD's and then decided to do the "root lift" bit with this.

Did the whole head this time, both sides, and some of the under layers at the back for some crown lift too.

Fantastic! Really does add a significant amount of volume. Really love the way it makes your hair sit at the roots.

Slept on it almost straightaway - I went to bed about an hour later, basically. When I got up this morning there was absolutely no loss of volume - its as puffy and full as it was when I first did it. Its now afternoon obviously and I've done the school run and pottered around outside in the weather and no loss of volume - its here to stay until I wash it, I suspect.

I read on the Amazon reviews that some people find they wash their hair less often when they use it - as it seems less greasy at the roots or prevents that stringy root thing from happening so time will tell!

Very happy with this device, would definitely recommend Grin

I have one, but I don't find it that noticeable - however I have only done little sections. Sounds like I need to be brave and go for it!

Yep biscuit, go the full sides and crown. Start at about ear level on the sides and work your way up to everything but that top layer, do the other side, and then a bit at the back under the crown (so you dont look like you have a flat head!)

It might be that you can't be faffed everyday but its great to know its there for a night out.

It does add 10/15 minutes to your hair styling routine if you do it as well as other stuff but it really lasts and I suspect it might mean less hair washing too Grin
