As part of the work we are doing with Ford, they are very keen to invite Mumsnetters and their friends to attend one of their "Future of Safety Tour" sessions this summer arranged exclusively for journalists and Mumsnetters. You'll be able to learn all about car safety from Ford as well as try some of the safety features first-hand
The session will last just over 2 hours - between 11.20am - 1.40pm and will run at the following dates/locations:
19th August in Manchester - Lancashire County Cricket Club - NOW CLOSED
23rd August in Glasgow - Hampden Park - NOW CLOSED
26th August in Cardiff - Cardiff Athletic Stadium - NOW CLOSED
31st August in London - Battersea Power Station - FOR THE RESERVE LIST AS WE NOW HAVE ENOUGH FOLKS
Mumsnetters will be able to attend with a friend or relation - everyone who is invited will receive up to 2 tickets. With regret Ford say no babies or children (for safety reasons). We have 10 pairs of tickets for each location except London where we have 5 pairs.
Obviously for most this will be in the school holidays (except Scotland) so we appreciate this is a tricky one - maybe you are working a half day and still have childcare or maybe you could ask a friend to look after the children for a couple of hours?
Attendance is by invitation only - if you'd like to attend please sign up here and we'll be in touch with full details if you're selected.
Here are some more details of what looks like a very exciting day:
Ford says "Safety is a key area of focus for Ford. The company has an established history of safety development within its entire line-up - past and present, and wants to demonstrate its current safety capabilities and its ongoing development in the future of safety.
To share news of our newest safety innovations, summer 2011 sees Ford take to the roads of Europe with its "Future of Safety Tour". The Tour, starting on 13th June, will take in 31 cities in 11 countries around Europe with exclusive invitations for journalists, and in the UK only, Mumsnetters."
The set-up will consist of up to three parts:
The Exhibition Hub - a purpose built interactive hub featuring videos, displays and aspects that tell the Ford safety story, outlining the development of certain features, the benefits to drivers and the opportunity to speak with Ford experts
The Test Centre - this is an area that will be set up to give the opportunity to try some of the safety features first-hand. Participants will be driven around the course by a professional driver before getting behind the wheel themselves. Features available for hands-on testing will include: Active City Stop, Traffic Sign Recognition and Active Park Assist.
The Road Course - a road course that will give you the chance to experience other safety features such as Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Information System.
Plan for the session
11.20am: Arrival and registration (20 minutes)
11.40am: Welcome from Ford PR spokesperson to include comprehensive introduction of safety spokesperson to enable people to chat with them during the session prior to the formal presentation at the end of the session (20 minutes)
12noon: Demonstrations (3 x 20 minutes)
Group 1: The Exhibition Hub - presentation on inflatable seatbelts from safety spokesperson; opportunity to explore the interactive hub and learn about Ford's safety technologies
Group 2: The Test Centre - one-on-one demonstrations with professional driver before hands-on driving experience
Group 3: The Road - one-on-one driving experience to showcase technologies such as Lane Keeping Assist and Driver Alert
1pm: Future thinking - presentation on the future of safety, Q&A and interviews (40 minutes)
1:40pm: End of experience
There will be a free hospitality van on site to provide food throughout the event
During the day, Mumsnetters will be filmed by Ford and the video will be used on the Ford Hub, on Mumsnet (coming soon). We'd also very much like you to add feedback and tips learnt from the day to a thread on Mumsnet - everyone who does so will receive a £20 Amazon voucher
If you'd like to attend please sign up here and we'll be in touch if you are selected with full details.
Thanks and good luck
MNHQ
A presentation on inflatable seatbelts is tempting ...
Has the 'parking video' disappeared or is it just me?!
Thanks Ann, thought it was on here...
Will ford with their vast riches pay travel costs ?
KaySirah - sadly not....free food though!
Please note London is now for the reserve list only
Eh? Reserve list?! what's happening then Ann?
I emailed you tonight!
We're still on the look out for MNers to go to these events in Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff and London - please sign up if you haven't yet!
Is it possible to park within the London one NGHM? it's a lot of travel by public transport for two hours.
Will find out for you and let you know Solo
Thank you
Solo - yes, there is parking
This sounds great but I have no childcare or anyone to go with
bugger if it had only been today
Thanks Helen. Is it on the actual site free parking or separate pay for parking? sorry to be a nuisance! but we need to weigh up the choices/costs etc.
Hi - we still have some spaces for Cardiff available this Friday if anyone else can make it?! And possibly for London.
And solo - yes the parking is provided.
That's great Ann thank you.
No spoilers, but DH & I went to the Manchester one last Friday. Jolly good time had by all & v interesting (even to a non-driver like me).
i went to the glasgow one today. the food was sandwiches etc, no greasy burgers. you didnt have to stay the whole two hours, one hour was fine ( but it was very quiet).
there was NO programme like the one outlined below though. just a display area you could wander around and a small demo area. like driving around a school playground. the park assist was weird but interesting. but no talks, demonstrations, road course etc.
worth doing if you live nearby and are free at lunchtime
Oooh...that sounds disappointing
AnnMumsnet MNHQ I've messaged you - couldn't find/remember the 'insight' email address...
A HUGE thank you to Mumsnet and Ford for todays opportunity. My husband and I had an amazing day! We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed all aspects of the day. Thank you again. Also hi to the Mum who I met today :-)
Hello Annieuk
was lovely to meet you too!
Was a very interesting couple of hours. Thank you for letting me go MN. I ended up going on my own as my friend was unwell the night before
.
I think that Ford are onto a winner with those new safety features, though when the lady I was in the car with was driving (journalist), somehow when the car was parking itself, it managed to hit the car in front as it steered in which was a bit
. The dishy Ford man blamed it on the camera being on the other side of the parked car, being metal. This is a bit of a worry...prams, buggies, lamp posts...all metal! but other that that? fabulous!
