DGS (5) attends MS school despite very significant cerebral palsy. (Needs all care needs met, but is a bright little boy). The head teacher called DD into the office (shock] (don't we all dread that!).

He is a fab head and his school is an ofsted outstanding primary. He said it had been a struggle to get DGS into his school (converted a changing area, hoist, training, special chairs and a 1 to 1 plus a new helper to cover lunch so his 1 to 1 can eat!). Tons of input from PT, OT and SALT etc.

Anyway he said that getting DGS into his school had been the highlight of his career ..... Smile Smile

That's lovely to hear it's really heartening that there is some decency out there

Sneezecakesmum · 12/12/2013 20:33

He was in the nativity today as a sheep and remembered his lines ...baa baa Smile. The other children adore him and held his hand Smile

The HT has welcomed children on the autistic spectrum, DS and other physical limitations. He is amazing!

Not sure your experience are reflected in most of the mums on here but glad inclusion hasn't been completely eradicated,

RinkyDinkyDoo · 12/12/2013 20:52

Lovely. Wish there were many more like him.x

Sneezecakesmum · 12/12/2013 20:55

The HT is leaving Sad but he is going to be a troubleshooter to bring other schools up to scratch so maybe he will spread his policies too Smile

It is so good to hear someone in authority being so whole hearted about inclusion.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 14/12/2013 11:39

That's wonderful :)

I think DDs primary is now just one lift short of being fully wheelchair accessible - I think they've been doing the conversions/building as the single wheelchair user moves up the school. They've added a lift, ramps and accessible toilets/care room

Ineedmorepatience · 14/12/2013 20:08

Brilliant Xmas Grin

Dd3 attends a totally inclusive primary and it truly is amazing. There are children with so many different disabilities and complex medical needs.

If only they could ditch a few of the old school teaching staff it might be close to perfect Xmas Wink

But that would be greedy wouldnt it Xmas Grin

This thread is fab! I used to accompany children with additional needs on visits into main stream schools for inclusion as a 1-1 and had some horrible experiences. Some schools seemed to be totally against inclusion. This was quite a while ago and am so pleased to hear things have changed for the better.

HumOlive · 14/12/2013 22:48

That's lovely. Lump in my throat.
