Did anyone's baby take a while to get used to their carrier...?

I borrowed a friends Ergo a few weeks back and loved it. As I have an active dog and a 4 month old chunky DS I needed a good carrier and so bought one.

So far, DS seems to like it but has not fully relaxed in it yet - he won't fall asleep in it, for example, whereas he did almost immediately when he was in the Kari-Me. I know he doesn't dislike it as he is not backward in comng forward with these things, but wondered if it took anyone else's baby a while to relax into it too...? I am not taking him out in it for long periods yet as I am reluctant to do too much too soon iyswim.

DS has always loved being in a sling but when we first moved onto a mei tai after generally using a ring sling I think there must have been a novelty factor for him, as he was happy in there but didn't start sleeping in it for about 3 weeks! I had just about got to the point of accepting that my guaranteed way to settle him was no more, when we went for a walk, I looked down and he was snoring away :) been fine ever since :)

I tried loads of slings and other carriers and my son hated them all. The closest we got was with a Mei Tai but even then he wasn't really happy.

At about that age DS stopped reliably falling asleep in any sling (I was using a manduca and still often using the moby I'd used since birth) - he still did sometimes, but it wasn't that 'guaranteed knocked-out by the time we get to the end of the road' thing any more. Now (6m) he'll definitely nap in the manduca if he's tired, but if not he'll stay awake and look all around with great interest.

Seconding needsadvice. It was about that age DD1 and DD2 both only fell asleep in sling if they really wanted to.
