Sleep

Does any new baby sleep in their basket during the day?

Just curious. DD2 is 4 weeks old and to be honest we've completely forgotten what DD1 was like!

Does anyone have any success getting them to sleep in their baskets at this age (especially during the day) or does everyone push/ drive/ rock/ suckle them to sleep and then let them sleep wherever they choose (i.e. car seat, buggy, mummy, daddy)...

...and if they do, could they share this secret!

having similar experience here - DD needs to be suckled to sleep but the moment her head hits the basket....

ANY tips gratefully received!!

from memory neither of mine slept in their moses basket during the day, and didn't seem particularly keen on it at night tbh!
They both either slept in their bouncy chair, in the living room or in the pram. I don't remember what age I started putting them down for naps properly during the day, in their room, probably a couple of months old, maybe more.

DD loved to be swaddled tight. WHich was not always possible as she was in the middle of a heat wave 2 years ago

My ds did. I realised within days of birth that sometimes when I had put him down as had to deal with older siblings he had just quietly dropped off. Then I tried to encourage it by noticing the cues etc until it became such a habit it wouldn't be broken.

As for the secret....

luck

Neither of my other two did.

Oh yes, DS1 used to love to be swaddled and then rocked and bingo! he'd be well away. DS2 was not so keen on swaddling, but he was easier generally, so didn't need so much attention getting him off to sleep in the 1st place.

Thanks everyone. DD1 didn't like swaddling much so haven't really tried with DD2... will think about giving it a go.

DD2 slept in a moses basket from day one. You just had to wibble her a bit and she dropped off and didn't wake up for hours. Now, at 6 mths she still takes 1.5-2 hr naps in her cot, going off to sleep without a whimper and waking up cooing and talking to herself.

DD1, on the other hand, would not sleep for more than 30mins in her cot until she was a year old, and would never sleep in it at all until she was 3mths. She always cried for at least 5mins before she went off to sleep, and always woke up crying.

I have done nothing differently. As theinsider said, it is pure luck!
