A lot of sites wont allow you to register more than one account from an IP address. maybr that would be a way round it

I agree, I don't think there is such a thing as a half hearted troll - they come with the implicit purpose of getting attention - they need it for whatever F'd up reason, and a bit more e-paper work is not going to put them off. I think the only sensible thing to do, is to continue to just try and rise above it and move on once they've been dealt with.

Also, you can't ban name changing within a time frame, because some people will have genuine reasons for wanting to - ie they feel they've released too much personal info and want to start afresh, or they've had a bit of a run in with someone and would rather have a "clean slate" as it were - both of which I think are perfectly legit.

I wish there was an easy way of trying to discourage the trolls, but I really don;t think there is.

how would you stop someone registering 2 or three (or more) times in different names to get round this?

but dumdedum, as soon as someone namechanges, it looks like they have only been on the site a day. I could namechange now and you would not find any history for me in search.

Id like to put forward an idea of mmine and apolagies if its been thought of already!

Ok, so when somebody joins the site for the first time i think there should be a time period, somewhere between 1 and 4 months where namechanging is desabled (sp?)

Because a lot of trolls when you search their records have only been on the site a few weeks before they start!

Yay or Nay?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
