Mn hq can't we just have a topic for people to try out the plot lines for their novels?

so, trolls a plenty of late it would seem, with thread deletions everywhere... And a lot of suggestion seems to be that people post here in order to try out the storylines for their latest/first novel.

So what if we were to have a topic where people could do just that? It would be clearly labelled, but anyone posting there could post their "storyline" as if it were a real situation, and people responding could also respond as if it were real, but they would know that it wasn't - iyswim?

So people would be free to get drawn into the story in the same way they might in a book, with op free to give updates etc, but they would know it wasn't real, so people wouldn't be in a position where they were emotionally investing in something which turned out to be deleted two days down the track...

Just a thought ...

Aye

Great idea

KateSMumsnet · 20/10/2014 15:10

We do have an adult fiction topic Smile

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 20/10/2014 15:17

Yes I genuinely think this is a great idea. People who fancy it can play along without anyone getting wound up. You could call it What If?

ArsenicChaseScream · 20/10/2014 15:56

Genius.

I have a great one involving a windowcleaner and a SIL and a misunderstanding.

Sparklingbrook · 20/10/2014 16:09

Ooh like a farce Arsenic? 'With hilarious results'?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 20/10/2014 16:14

I think that's rather clever, OP.
I don't understand the people who feel the need to try out plot ideas at all but they do seem to exist, so....

There's the potential for a lot of fun to be had.

ArsenicChaseScream · 20/10/2014 16:18

Exactly sparkling Smile

I can't help it, all these threads have set me off. I need an outlet or i'll turn rogue.

Sparklingbrook · 20/10/2014 16:20

They say everyone has a novel in them. Or something like that.

ArsenicChaseScream · 20/10/2014 16:22

I keep thinking about doing a creative writing course, it's true.

But this would be cheaper Smile

WannaBe · 20/10/2014 16:24

yes kate but the adult fiction topic is for people to discuss fiction - past, present etc, and if people added their plot lines in there other discussion would be lost. Whereas if there was a dedicated "what if?" topic people would be under no ilusions as to what it was for.

It would be a great place for all the reverse AIBUs

I'm only interested in any where 'hilarity ensues'.

Plenty of those please - and real hilarity, not fecking beakers of penis.

YouAreMyRain · 23/10/2014 17:53

The "what if?" Topic idea is genius!

Bluestocking · 23/10/2014 18:14

"What if" is a great idea for a topic.
