Is Mn depressed? Why are nearly all the emoticons negative?

Ok, there's smile, grin, and wink. And now there's flowers, brew and wine. Faaaairly positive.... but the rest are drear

Couldn't we have some ways of expressing support, encouragement, understanding etc - just ways of being nice, like you would be to a friend.

Eg sympathy, [perhaps a hand to hold emoticon], a proud/you're doing/done really well [a rosette emoticon?], congratulations [balloon?], understanding [nodding head?!].... you get the gist.

I recently made an ironic comment and a few posters went - 'are you serious???'

So how about an emoticon for sarcasm and/ or irony?

TotallyBS Sun 10-Feb-13 18:03:44

... since we are on the subject, a rolling of the eyes emoticon would be good.

I think there are plenty of emoticons.

And I don't think they are overwhelmingly negative

smile positive
grin positive
wink positive
shock negative
hmm negative
confused neutral
blush neutral
angry negative
sad negative
envy negative
biscuit neutral
wine positive
brew positive
thanks positive
bear positive

I count 7 positive, 5 negative, 3 neutral

Trills - me thinks you prove my point.

Shouldn't they be nearly all positive? Mn is such a positive place [I agree totally BS we do need an irony one].

Seriously, we need all the help we can get to keep mn friendly, positive and naice imho.

Oh. sad that you feel we're not grin enough.

Have you had wine?

thanks

MelodyBaker Sun 10-Feb-13 22:53:14

Gransnet have [cake] why can't we have [cake]
<sulks>
And... [Kitten] both neutral smiles

The shock one is quite often a bit funny when I use it.

I like them. We are restrained.

No, you have to use words instead.

So [empathetic] or [arf] or [grumpy]

There is so much more that can be said with a nice-placed word rather than a generic emoticon.

Though I still want a snigger
