I know this is a trivial Q in the grand scheme of other things you have to deal with, but I'm getting a little bored with the limited number of colours you can choose for the OP's highlighted colour and your own highlighted colour.

OP posts:
HelenMumsnet · 03/09/2011 21:45

Shock Have you tried out all six?

FruStefanLindman · 04/09/2011 08:52

Yes - except the very pale ones Grin

OP posts:
Paschaelina · 04/09/2011 09:14

Ooh yes I'd like a colour wheel please so I can choose the exact shade of magenta to highlight my posts.

TIA

OliviaMumsnet · 05/09/2011 19:33
Shock A colour wheel?! wonders if MN has morphed into Farrow and Ball when I wasn't looking Pale is the new black don'tyaknow.
FruStefanLindman · 05/09/2011 21:34

The problem with the pale ones is that they don't catch your eye very easily if you're scrolling through a thread quite quickly.

I'm sorry to say I have been resisting moaning about this too.

I knpow it's all v tasteful and so on but the olive green is almost too dark to read the writing, silveris v depressing dark grey so I'm stuck with pale green and pink.

it's unattractive. i do cope but would be so pleased to have maybe something else. IF it's not massively difficult to organise that is.

NetworkGuy · 09/09/2011 21:33

I'd like to second the comments by Gloria, above. Would love more choices, or some way to store hex levels for RGB.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 09/09/2011 21:44

Also, if you're red/green colour blind, the pale green is well-nigh invisible. Grin

Confused me for a bit, that; "Well, this, highlight posts thing hasn't worked at all - oh, wait a minute...."

NetworkGuy · 09/09/2011 21:49

Luckily I was tested for colour blindness 35+ years ago... could have been dangerous for myself and colleagues (electrical / radio, not bomb making :) )

FruStefanLindman · 12/09/2011 17:27

"hex levels for RGB", I couldn't have put it better myself, NWG

I haven't got a clue what you're talking about, but it sounds good Wink

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 13/09/2011 01:26

Sorry - had been checking some old links that day from my bookmarks file of some 8 years ago.

RGB = Red Green Blue - the colours which were mixed together on older computer screens / TVs (and possibly used in flat screens too).

'hex' short for hexadecimal, ie number system based on 16 not 10 (decimal), as it is commonly used on computers (using hex pairs is short way of showing numbers up to 255).

If part of the screen is solid red then it could be expressed as 255,0,0 ( red, green, blue ) which would be stored as FF0000 (FF = 15x16 + 15 = 255)

Hex shows numbers as 0..8.9.A.B.C.D.E.F
A=10 B=11 C=12 ... F=15

NGuy

Grin

You are as clear as Linux as usual.

Wink

Fru, I think slowing the scrolling is a VeryWiseIdea.

From one who has been complimentaried on her slowness of scroll.

FruStefanLindman · 13/09/2011 08:05

Blimey, NWG, thanks Smile - it's still as clear as mud to me, but I appreciate the explanation Grin

Chaos, I do scroll slowly to begin with, but sometimes if I'm re-reading a thread and want to go back to something the OP has said, or that I've said, that's when the quick scroll comes into play. [wunk]

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 13/09/2011 13:47

OK, please take a ook *> here

FruStefanLindman · 13/09/2011 19:12

Thank you for the link, NGuy. Wow - that's really cool and I see what you're getting at.

I suppose it depends on what the MNHQTechs want to do re adding a few more colours for us?

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 13/09/2011 19:19

Blush I didnt even know that the customise options existed! I've just changed mine and it makes the world of difference! Thank you!

More than enough colours for me as i'm not used to any.

NetworkGuy · 13/09/2011 20:55

FSL glad it made more sense, eventually. Of course I knew what I meant but it is difficult to describe that to someone in simple English if they've never seen such a colour palette and were unfamiliar with Hex, too.

FruStefanLindman · 13/09/2011 22:11

NGuy, a colour palette/wheel etc I'm familiar with - it was your mathematical description of how it all works Wink

... and I remember using Letraset transfers for presentations 30+ years ago when graphic printing devices were costly and the software awkward to use, and laser printers probably didn't exist, and certainly colour inkjet printers didn't.

(and to put my use of Letraset into perspective, I was working in a computer support department in higher education, so did have access to high-powered [for the time] computing resources, expensive [green vectors only] graphics display devices, HP colour plotters [with costly plotter pens, and software one pretty much had to write for oneself!]. I was extremely happy to get that job, especially after I had quit college and had no 'A' levels even, just a lot of enthusiasm, hundreds of hours of computer use, and willingness/ability to learn.)

FruStefanLindman · 16/09/2011 18:43

Letraset . . .

OP posts:
Oblomov · 23/07/2013 11:19

Is there any movement on this, please?
I too can not find the pale pink and pale green posts, as I am scrolling through threads, quickly. When are darker colours coming?

Plus, when IS the I-phone colour thing going to come out? I need that too. BADLY.

KateSMumsnet · 23/07/2013 15:03

Ooh this colour thing was before my time. Will get an update for you.

FruOla · 24/07/2013 19:39

I forgot I requested this nearly two years ago where does the time fly? (yeah, it's me, I had a different NN then). Well, I didn't forget .......... I just kind of gave up

Thanks for reviving the thread Oblomov! Flowers Grin

CarpeVinum · 24/07/2013 19:45

Oh hey, can I order this for my colour scheme please.

It's so pretty !,

And my living room is frustrating me because it won't let me do it in there (can't find cushions in right colours etc.) so I'd feel better if I could impose it somewhere at least.

I like the lavender blush and blue I have going on here, but the above is so much lovelier.

Tech won't mind. I think they'll like it too and find it a real joy to implement. Probably.

FruOla · 03/09/2016 19:55

OK. This is a zombie thread, I know. But it's my zombie thread (as in, I started it in 2011)!

But just wondering whether now (5 years later) there is any chance of adding a few more colours in Customise for highlighting OP's posts and our own posts now? The options are still the same and very limited. It is nice to have a change now and again Grin
