Dulwich College offers

Hi there, Did anyone apply to Dulwich College and have you heard anything? I know offers are supposed to come out next week, but schools don't always keep to their timetable!

carltonscroop Fri 10-Feb-12 09:08:52

All the Dulwich Foundation schools make their offers on the same date (posting 16 Feb). I don't think one would break ranks.

mamakiso Fri 10-Feb-12 09:13:43

carltonscroop thanks. I guess one more week of nail biting then!

I heard that Dulwich only interviews boys that it intends to make offers to plus a few for a waiting list. So if your DS was interviewed, then you've good grounds for being optimistic (as opposed to say the schools which are known to interview 2 candidates for each place).

Dulwich has always been a good school, and there's a real buzz about the new headmaster. It's a really sought after place at the moment.

Carltonscroop, thanks for that, I needed something to cheer me up. My DS interviewed on the 2nd day (14th Jan) of interviews so it's been a really long wait for us!

I interviewed with the Headmaster and met the Head of the lower school and they all seemed very nice.

Roll on 16th! Are you waiting on Dulwich as well?

Good luck to all waiting for news from Dulwich, JAGS and Alleyn's on Friday. Please post any news, good or bad.

carltonscroop Fri 17-Feb-12 12:50:04

Not in the thick of it personally!

But, mamakiso, have you heard yet? From Dulwich or anywhere else (a lot out today)?

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 15:48:30

Dulwich _ we got 50% bursary. City we got 100% but on a waiting list. I am soo proud of DS but will likely wait for grammars schools before I make a decision! What schools are you waitng for?

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 15:49:25

sorry, just got the bit about you being a bystander. Well, lots of experience and knowledge to tap into on this site!

gazzalw Fri 17-Feb-12 16:15:26

Mamakiso can I just ask which grammars you are waiting on as a parent of a DS who has passed the three SW London ones he took?

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 16:55:24

gazzalw, I actually live in the SE. Grammars are St. Olaves, Orpington, Dartford Boys, Dartford and Beths in Bexley. We don't know allocations until 1 March although he did well in the tests. We don't know the results or pass mark for St Olave's at all!

carltonscroop Fri 17-Feb-12 17:29:10

Well done that DS!

Which do you most want him to go to? (Especially given the possible journeys). Decisions, decisions!

feelingcalm Fri 17-Feb-12 17:31:12

Congratulations mamakiso, my dd got offers from JAGS and Bromley high, had been hoping for a schorlarship but alas she did not get this.

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 17:50:09

I prefer City, it closer and easier to get to; just 1 train. But also would really love St Olave's if he gets in. I'm renting so i would be happy to move closer because commuting would be difficult. Not sure I can afford Dulwich even with 50% off!!

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 17:51:17

feelingcalm, congrats to your dd! I hear they are very good schools

gazzalw Fri 17-Feb-12 18:41:12

Congratulations Mamakiso you obviously have a very bright son who will have a very bright future ahead of him whichever school he goes to - hope you get the offer/scholarship/bursary school you feel is right for him!

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 18:47:38

gazzalw, very kind words, thanks. You also have choices to make - 3 schools, well done to your DS.

gazzalw Fri 17-Feb-12 19:10:27

Thanks! But people have told me that DCs can pass all their 11+ exams and still not end up with a place [sad}

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 19:15:01

It's possible. A friend of mine was given a non grammar place which she rejected and went on the waitlist for her preferred school. She eventually got the place although it wasn't till June. Be positive

gazzalw Fri 17-Feb-12 20:03:06

That's what worries me sad. Okay if DS gets a place in the end but having to wait till June is stressful.....oh dear...

We're on a countdown till 1st March....

kjartanette Sun 19-Feb-12 12:25:49

Mamakiso - well done to your DS! Mine is only on the waiting list at DC and if it's like last year (which it almost certainly is, more applications than ever) the school won't need to take from it. My DS is very disappointed (particuarly because he thought he'd had a good interview) and we can't yet interest him in Alleyn's where he did get a place. Our other options are quite far away, unfortunately.

mamakiso Thu 01-Mar-12 18:59:57

Congrats gazzalw, you got a grammar school. Unfortunately, despite doing extremely well in the 11+ exams, my DS is one of those who didn't get a grammar school place at all. So it's back to the drawing board for us - will definitely reject the school offered but worried we will end up with no school at all! Appeal? Waitlist?, not sure what to do.

I guess I do have a fall back but it will be a struggle to pay even 50% of indie fees. All my prayers are for City waitlist to move, I cant think of anything else.

gazzalw Fri 02-Mar-12 07:55:20

Thank you Mamakiso for your kind words and I'm sorry to hear your news...but maybe it's because he is destined to get the City of London School place? Let's hope your prayers are answered. Will be hoping so....

I get the feeling that the grammar school places will be incredibly sought after this year because it makes life a lot easier not to have to pay school fees in these uncertain times...judging by the Trinity and Whitgift thread it seems as if the demand for bursaries and scholarships was higher than ever....

It's very tough living in London - lots of choice but primarily the choices are financially driven! And we are not all super-rich or even half-rich come to think of it!

Hi

I saw your post. Would you mind if I ask you if you had a tutor for your daughter as I'm desperately looking for a word of mouth one.

Many Thanks

Roz

mamakiso Thu 08-Mar-12 10:37:12

kjartanette, I declined the place at Dulwich so hopefully there should be some movement on the waitlist!

gazzalw - we got the place at City, we're elated!!

Roz - where do you live.
