Hi all!! Worried Mummy here waiting on RGS..........

I've heard friends have been called for second interviews (the 'not sures') but I don't know if the definite 'no's' are out yet.....?

Any gossip out there?

Thanks xx

Yes those having interviews have had letters.
don`t know about the nos but assume they`ve gone out too

happilyconfused Wed 19-Jan-11 12:24:42

with RGS no news is good news!

pagwatch Wed 19-Jan-11 12:30:03

Ds1didn't get interviewed, they only call back middle third. Top third get straight in, bottom third rejected, middle third get called back.

We honest to god didn't know if he was straight in or straight out. He was straight in.
Great school. We are waiting on unis now. Good luck all

apparently loads of boys this year-anyone know just how many?

JaneyPal Sat 22-Jan-11 12:29:00

Well there were many hundreds of parents there on Admissions Day!! Apparently the ratio is about 4 to 1 but, of course, it is a self selecting group too as it is essentially the cream of all the schools around. I guess that is why it is in the top five schools in the whole country!!

We are still waiting for news.....

JaneyPal Thu 27-Jan-11 08:27:01

bump

Menagerie Thu 27-Jan-11 23:58:04

Is it really among the top five in the whole country? I love that school above all others we've seen. But that's pressure...

Thelms11 Fri 28-Jan-11 15:48:44

Still heard nothing re entry place at 11. Does anybody know whether this is now definite good news?

heartsnflowers Fri 28-Jan-11 16:49:34

I would put money on it!

JaneyPal Sun 30-Jan-11 15:32:52

We've been tipped off by our current school that 'all is well' so I think the only risk of you not receiving good news is if the 'no' letter has gone missing en route.

Apparently they have over 40 boys into Oxbridge this year!!

We'll certianly be forgetting Chaterhouse and Wellington if it really is good news to come.

Fingers crossed for everyone else still waiting......

My son is in the upper sixth at RGS and is so laid back he's virtually horizontal. Not seen much evidence of being a high pressure enviroment amongst his friends either so I wouldn't worry about that.

Thelms11 Mon 31-Jan-11 16:36:57

Yes, I've heard the boys have a great time. It seems really special. As you say, fingers crossed for all still waiting

No news is good news. Last year we had friends who were waiting and they got the acceptance letter at half term. They send rejections out really quickly, then the maybes and then the firm acceptances. Depending where your son goes at the moment you may find that they find out before you do. We found out when our ds headmaster congratulated him the day before half term started. Only got the letter half way through half term.

Thanks for the all the comment! We heard today that two of those called back for another interview got a 'no' today but with an invitation to re-sit at 12+.

Any ideas on the chances if you go that route? Wouldn't most of the 13+ places have already been given out to those that did well first time around?????

mummytime Wed 02-Feb-11 17:57:16

I've known quite a few boys who didn't get in at 11 but did at 13; I think they expect some to improve with maturity.

Thelms11 Fri 18-Feb-11 18:54:48

Has anyone had an offer letter yet? Someone told me we should get them today but nothing arrived for us.

grovel Fri 18-Feb-11 19:00:52

Janey, Wellington and Charterhouse are not great at the moment. Loads of spin and bling though.

JoBoBaggins Fri 18-Feb-11 21:23:45

No letter arrived so called the school as going away for half term. Really proud of DS as he has been awarded 10% scholarship, but we sort of needed more bursary than we were offered...spending the next week looking for cash as we so want him to go to RGS, as does he. State school otherwise, which is fine as this is Guildford after all, but know RGS would suit him perfectly. Fingers crossed we can sort something out!

Thelms11 Fri 18-Feb-11 22:40:25

Thanks for that. I will not worry too much yet. Well done to your son for getting the scholarship - he must have done extremely well. Good luck in raising the cash. Fingers crossed for you. It sounds like he will do well wherever he goes.

JoBoBaggins Sat 19-Feb-11 10:33:05

Thank you Thelms! We are just amazed at how well he has done! Letter has now arrived confirming offer, hope you soon get one too!

Thelms11 Thu 24-Feb-11 17:49:37

Yes, my son's letter arrived on Saturday. Hope to be seeing you all there in September.

Dear Mum & Dads,

My son sat for RGS exam this year Jan 14th 2012. Till today we havent receive anything yet from the school. Everyday its like a time bomb for me!!! Has anyone out there received anything yet? According to the website, it has written that they would send the 'No' letter within 2 weeks.

I am just worried whether that is the case or is there a chance of anyone getting it at a later stage? Please calm me down!!!

Thank you

IvySquirrel Fri 10-Feb-12 18:05:02

Hi Curiousmum
I posted on this thread last year (DS got scholarship, not sure about rasing cash, have namechanged since!). I think if it was a no you'd have def heard by now - when DS sat the scholarship exam at end of Jan all no's had gone out.
We raised the money and DS has done a term and a half now and it is absolutely fab - we love it, so right for him and he's made friends which was a worry a he didn't know anyone. Lots of luck to you.

curiousmum15 Mon 13-Feb-12 09:46:03

Hi IvySquirrel,

Thank you for that. Its 13th Feb now. Still no news! Like you said, I heard that rejection letters go out quickly so I pray my boy got it!

Will let you know

Thanks
