Facebook question re relationship status

This isn't really anything very important but for a silly reason it bothers me - ill explain....

Separated from husband but still not divorced (all going through at the mo) but my relationship status on Facebook still says "married to ...." I'd Like to just change it/delete it but wouldn't want an announcement "so and so's relationship status has changed from married to single ..."

Anyone know if it comes up on your wall if u edit your relationship status?

Bit will I know but it really bothers me :-(

AFAIK when you go into the 'edit profile' menu you will see a gear/cog icon to the right hand side. If you click on this and change the option to 'only me' then you can change the status and noone else will be able to see it.

Thank you - I might give it a go with "hometown" first! X

You can hide you relationship status. If you into you personal settings it will have under/next to relationship 'only for me to see' or something like that, you just need to click there.

If you are in the new look timeline thingy it doesn't announce a relationship status change. If you are in the old style facebook and aren't careful it will announce it to the world.

Alternatively if you change it, you can go to your home page and delete the post as soon as it appears

Not true. It's improved with timeline, but it's still very visible.

As the others have said click on your relationship icon and set it to "only me" then change it to single.

Yes, but then your ex husband will then probably change his, and he will get the '... married to single...' thing on his wall.

You can delete the post on your wall that says "x is now single" from your timeline as soon as it's changed

Yeah but I do that when I change a profile picture. I delete the notification on my wall but it's still in other people's news feeds.
