From Guardian report on a Sony Award:

The Sony judges said Humphrys, 69, who joined Today in 1987 and has declared he has no intention of standing down, was a "giant among radio news journalists".

He's the reason I rarely listen to Today. Seems like there'll be no getting away from him (surely a bit of life in retirement would be nice)...

NB I'm not wishing him dead or anything nasty, he just rubs me up the wrong way with his interviewing style such as it is...

My immediate reaction to the Sony award was "nooooo!! Don't encourage him." I wish that he would decide to spend more time with his family.

I don't really like any of the interviewing style: it doesn't feel as if they are trying to get to the nub of the matter, it just feels like they are trying to point-score over the interviewee. It's not informative, it's playground knockabout. You know that they will never be satisfied with an answer - it's always why wasn't it sooner/later, higher/lower, cheaper/more expensive, inclusive/exclusive, local/national ad nauseam. If I was a politician I would never appear because you know that you could never do right in their eyes, they always find something to carp about.

\ rant over.
