Hillarys blinds

Hi
Hillarys blinds have up to 50% off at the moment. I would ideally like someone to come out & measure up & then fit the wooden venetian blinds when they are ready. Has anyone used this service fcrom Hillarys & were you happy with it & also the quality of the blinds? Thanks

We've got some - we were happy with the quality and the service. But I think they may operate as a franchise, so the fitters could vary from one area to another?

hester · 14/05/2010 22:25

There's another thread going atm about just this. I have vented my spleen on there - for now, enough to say that yes, it does really depend on the quality of the fitter! (My blinds are currently 6 weeks late and counting...)

cakeywakey · 14/05/2010 22:44

I've had some very good deals and always been very happy with my blinds (conservatory and through the house, did them in stages to take advantage of best offers!). Must be lucky to have a very good local fitter by the sounds of it though.

zombiewoman · 15/05/2010 18:58

I would never use them again.Very bad customer care and poorly made.

nappyzoneloveslindor · 15/05/2010 19:48

Even with 50% off they are expensive - my parents just got some made to emasure at Dunelm for a fraction of the pricde and better quality.

atworknotworking · 16/05/2010 17:59

Crappy, fitting (well actually they didn't) put up back to front and left millions of drill holes in the frame, which we had to get repaired. Would Never! use them again.

Longtalljosie · 16/05/2010 18:01

We used web-blinds - which are basically Hillarys ones but you measure and fit them yourself for a cheaper price

craftynclothy · 16/05/2010 18:07

We recently had a quote from them. I thought they were expensive and tbh I found the guy was pleasant enough but clearly wasn't listening to what I wanted.

We're getting a local company to give us a quote this week and tbh I'd much rather use them anyway cos they actually listened to what we wanted.

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2010 18:12

We use them and happy with the quality and fitting (we've only had verticals and wood venetians) however I do find their sales a bit of a con - it never really includes what you want.

ThinkingAboutSchemes · 16/05/2010 18:15

Thanks all, very helpful. Not sure if we are going for blinds, depends on cost really & we'd definitely need someone to put them up for us. Need to do more research...

Yeah I'm looking at using them as when looked at other sites my windows are to big and then I have 2 sets of patio doors In lounge think previous owner had bit of glass fixation

noddyholder · 17/05/2010 09:04

I would never use them! measure yourself and order online. They are easy to put up but if not get a local handyman from the paper to fit them,Most web blind co's do made to measure and they are afraction of the cost of Hillary's even in the sale!I have a company I always use for work will did out the details and post later

badkitty · 17/05/2010 11:14

I just got a blind from web-blinds (Hillary's online) and it is crappy quality and the cord broke the first time I used it. Even if you need to get someone to help put them up, it is easy to measure for the blinds yourself anyway.

whatname · 17/05/2010 11:46

hhmmmnn, not convinced yet.
I had the guy come out last week, and even with the discount, they want £200 for a small patio window, like 150 x 900.
anyone recommend anyone else, am going to get another quote.

noddyholder · 17/05/2010 14:01

these

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 18/05/2010 11:13

ooo thanks for that noddy - i am intrigued by the wooden verticals as an alternative to normal verticals but am wondering about clanking....

mamatomany · 18/05/2010 12:02

How easy are blinds to fit ? That's what has always made me use Hillarys despite the expense.

hophophippidtyhop · 18/05/2010 13:22

I haven't used these people yet, but they seem like a good price. They do samples too. You should be able to find someone to fit them if you're as bad at diy as we are!

AMumInScotland · 19/05/2010 13:37

I don't think the fitting would be too bad - you get two sort of end corners which you have to fit to the wall above the window - straight and level and the right distance apart - then the actual blind slots into those corners - there are little hinged bits at the front to open up and then snap shut once the blind is in place. Then there is a pelmet which you just attach with double-sided velcro.

roundthebend4 · 19/05/2010 16:49

noddy looked at site but they dont go big enough

manicmuvvaof3 · 20/05/2010 13:41

We got some Hillary's roman blinds fitted end of November last year. They seem very well made, are lined and made our room warmer and quieter - HOWEVER the cord mechanism broke after just 3 weeks and gradually all the cords have broken. Mh DH managed to rejoin the cords using pliers. I actually raised whether the cords would support such a weight (Romans use a LOT of fabric and our windows are quite bit) and the rep breezily assured me they would. He dropped a couple of spare cords in but IMHO the whole thing needs a re-design. I would prob not use them again. HTH

Hi Everyone

Firstly, a disclosure, I've worked on the site I'm about to recommend but I really think they're worth a plug

If you're in Ireland then MyBlinds.ie is very good - the Roman Blinds especially are ridiculously cheap at the moment.

The model is - you measure, you fit, you save - so you get the blind you want with no middle man.

But I there will be a measurement and fitting service too in the near future - which means if your not comfortable fitting your own window blinds you can get someone to do it for you - but still benefit from cheap online prices.

Ger
