your wine wont really get warm
the wine racks are only 30cms deep and the fridges are a min of 60 with a little gap at the back for ventilation and the fridge's heat to pass.
Your Smallbone's and Mark Wilkinson's would not add these if it was an issue

I suppose the wine will get warm. But I drink white, so mine will be in the fridge. The red will just have to live above the fridge. There isn't anywhere else to put it up high and I don't want it low where kids can get into it. I'd rather DH suffer warm wine. Having said that, I've never noticed anything else we keep on the fridge getting warm, so perhaps a non-issue. Will have to wait and see when the new fridge arrives.

Won't your wine get warm?

Ours has a cupboard and a built in microwave under and is a double oven/grill, so comes up quite high. There was room above for a very shallow cupboard (which the joiner made up by cutting down a door) which I use for cake tins and trays which aren't used too often).

The joiner was worried that I'd struggle with the grill (which is moreorless at eye level) but it has been fine. If it had been much lower, then I think the microwave would have been too low.

Microwave has stopped working but that's another story.

Ah, hadn't considered that. Not big enough for a proper cupboard up there though as low ceilings. I think I'll leave it, DH drinks the wine anyway so he'll just have to suffer warm wine as his punishment for leaving all the house renovation to me to sort out.

very good idea to have the baking trays up high, they're very light so easy to reach down

wine rack over fridge will get warm from the waste heat

I've got (from the floor upwards):

Two deep pan drawers
A shallow drawer
Double oven and grill
Cupboard space I keep baking trays in.

Works very well for us.

Thank you all, that is really helpful. I like the wine bottles idea Piglet. Ours are going in a rack over the fridge. I've got a zone thing going on and all drinks / glasses / mugs are by the fridge & kettle. I intend to move as little as possible and have everything at my fingertips in my fancy new kitchen. That's the idea anyway

it does depend on the size of your combi m/wave.
if its 450 high paired with a 600 single oven = 1050mm then...
if your having the standard 1965 units (2115 with plinth)
then you normally have a 450 door base(or drawer) & 450 door top.
or
2150 tall unit (2300 with plinth) you have a 570/575 base door or drawer and 490/495 top door.
if you have a bespoke doors then pick what height you like but most ovens are placed a min of 720 off the floor (inc plinth)

so the microwave should be lower than your face (don't want to spill anything lifting it out) then the oven will be about 800mm high (depends on the model) so what's left is for your storage. Maybe 600mm? Mine has a bottom drawer for wine bottles.

Yes, am having oven with combi microwave over and small cupboard over that for seldom used items that DH won't part with. Under I'm planning to have vertical slots for my baking trays / casserole dishes that I don't want to dig for in a pan drawer. The pan drawers are going under the hob <excited emoticon>. I thought I'd see what height other people have their ovens at - as don't want it too high or too low. Need to be able to reach the microwave as well though...

a big pull-out pan-drawer (or two) is better underneath than a cupboard.

You might even get two big ones, and one shallow one for kitchen knives and utensils.

They usually come right out on metal runners like a filing cabinet, so you can reach stuff from the back. Unless you are quite tall, the cupboard above the oven will only be suitable for large, light items that you do not use often and will not fall on your head. Some people put the microwave there.

it is really useful if the oven is at chest height with a glass door - easy to see what is happening and to take things in and out without bending. You know you are not 25 any more when...

How high up is the oven? As in, how far from the ground? I need to tell my joiner how big the cupboard under should be and I have no idea!
