We're looking to relocate after a change of lifestyle. We've always lived in or near London and commuted and paid a premium for property at the same time. I've now decided not to work for the next few years while the children are young so I fancy living somewhere different.
I'd love to buy an affordable house with a garden and idealy walking distance to schools, shops and a park would be fantastic.

Lots for that in Norfolk...close to the City and quieter villages

Well I live in Lancashire. You could get a nice house, with gardens etc for that. In a rural village with walking distance to good schools. Low crime rates etc.
We are looking at high wycombe, which has nice property in that range, good schools and still comutable to London

Thanks mellowcat. Any particular cities/towns that you could recommend or suggest we don't bother with?

Dorset, Wool, Wareham, Dorchester, Crossways.
Swindon. One hour from London and v unfashionable, but cheap and cheerful.

Newcastle or Durham , even a 4 bed.
Still in Wiltshire but less busy than Swindon, look at Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge (Hilperton side), or Calne.

Wow, lots of suggestions. Thanks very much. I felt a bit silly asking in case I got lots of 'I wish I had that much money to spend' responses.
I've started to look on Rightmove at Norfolk already but it's a bit too big a search area.
Dorset ar the places (Wool etc) you mention towns in Dorset (sorry for not having a clue!).
purple which towns in East Sussex are you thinking of? I thought we were outpriced but I'm obviously looking inthe wrong places.

I'd have thought just about anywhere but London, to be honest. I like in a ravishing part of Devon where you could easily get a three bed for that. Do you need to be near London? What's your search area [channels inner Kirstie]

Some parts of Cheshire. Very good schools, near to Liverpool and Manchester and easy access to lovely countryside.

in our town in Herts there are plenty of 3 beds for that price or under too.
agree with mellow cat. Norfolk and Suffolk have some beautiful big houses for that amount.
