If you loved the Bulthaup B3 kitchen, but didn't have Bulthaup levels of cash, what would you go for?

We've spent ages thinking about our kitchen redesign. We're planning to knock a wall down, create a big kitchen/dining/living space with a central island etc.

My favourite kitchen is still the Bulthaup B3, months after I first saw it. Things I like about it:

  • Handleless
  • Matt finish
  • Thin worktops
  • Just the overall look, I suppose.

The quality is of course attractive, but I just don't think we can run to the price involved - the kitchen will be fairly large.

Any suggestions what to go for instead? I'm leaning towards getting builder/joiner to make the doors, get them spray painted, use standard carcasses, source worktop independently etc - anyone done this? Or anyone have any suggestions for what/who we could use?

Oh a link to the kitchen I mean www.bulthaup.co.uk/contentview/Product-b3-Diversity.html

We don't need the wall panel things - just normal wall units / island units etc.

love it too but csnt think of s budget alternative - sholdnt be too hard to get handleless matt white carcasses from somewhere I would have thought - will also be looking next year.

Dear Pootlebug

Your message was posted on my colleagues computer this morning and It is with great interest that I read this thread. The bulthaup b3 system is an incredibly versatile product with a wide range of finishes and design possibilities. I think you may be surprised at how cost effective a bulthaup kitchen can be. I would therefore like to invite you to one of our showrooms at Mayfair, Holland Park or Clerkenwell to meet with me for a design meeting to discuss your project with a view to providing you with a no cost no obligation quotation. At the very least you will come away with some great design ideas.

You can reach me by telephone on 020 7495 3663 or email [email protected]

Kind Regards,

Will Hayward

Grin at buying a "cost effective" kitchen from a Mayfair address.......do not pass go or collect £200

Thank you for your post, Will. We did get a quote (although admittedly we have changed the proposed layout since that time). I thought the design ideas were great and I couldn't fault the service....but I'm not sure we can afford to channel so much into just the kitchen at the expense of everything else we need to do in the house. But still thinking about it!

That kitchen is just stunning. Absolutely stunning. I would be surprised if you could substitute with something else and get the same effect. Quotes should be negotiable, no? Haggle woman!!!! If you can afford it, I don't imagine you'd be disappointed with the end result.
Just negotiate - 10% standard, but aim for 15-20% and stop being so British!Grin

You will find other matt white handleless kitchens elsewhere though. You will find design options are more restricted.

Try Schuller Next line, have a look at www.KDCUK.co.uk - the quality is fantastic, Brum fittings etc - they do a cheaper version too with fewer of the design details - worth a look.

Apart from than have a look at Leicht, Hacker, Pronorm...I think they all offer laquered matt white handleless kitchens - you will barely be able to tell the difference.

We have just installed a hacker systemat kitchen - matt (think they called it soft touch velvet) white lacquered, handleless kitchen. We're thrilled with it! Still very expensive though, but unsure how much the bulthaup kitchens are.

SeasonsGripings · 23/12/2011 19:36

I would expect Bulthaup kitchen to be around 2-3 times that of a Hacker Kitchen, maybe more. We were looking at £40k for ours as opposed to £10k-£20k elsewhere - units only.
