My DD's school chooses not to do either charity. Is this unusual?
Also, are bun sales banned in primary schools now? Again her school has never organised one of these to fund raise.

Lots of bun sales in my school! And just about every charity/special day supported.

And who on earth would buy them, assuming you're talking about lunch buns and not hair ones? Presumably the kids have dinners or packed lunches or are the buns to be eaten for tea/dinner so parents don't have to cook!?

Damn it. Now you have me craving for a chip bun!

A year group migh take it in turns to bring home made or shop bought cakes/crispy buns to sell at morning break and give money to chosen charity. Kids love them. Older ones love doing the selling and everyone enjoys choosing and buying and eating.

What's a crispy bun (forgive me but kids are young so might yet experience these things)? Is it a bacon one?

Anyway, our school does all of those things and it's a fucking pain the arse. If your school doesn't do it, count yourself lucky. Not only do we have to bake cakes, but we have to make costumes for them. I fucking hate the whole damn lot of them, and that includes fucking Pudsey.

NB we have to make costumes for the kids, not the cakes.

Ds's school don't do CiN or CR, but the children choose their charities of the year and then organise events (well, y4,5,6 organise events) to raise money for those. They do have cake stalls

The school at which I was a governor didn't often do anything for CIN or CR because the headteacher at the time thought it distracted the children from learning. Hmm.

I wish that our headteacher was like that, ComeIntoTheGardenMaud. Not for the distraction from learning thing but because it's just One More Thing To Do on top of everything else. NB I have a couple of charities I support by DD. I've decided that they are who I want to give my money to and I don't want to bake a fucking cake or make a fucking costume for anything else.

I don't remember all of this costume malarky when I was at school, but what with World Book Day, Red Nose Day, Comic Relief Day etc sometimes it feels like I spend half of my time at home making shitty costumes that he wears once and shitty cakes that no-one in their right mind would eat - I mean, honestly, cakes at a bake sale? With all of those little bogie-and-shit-encrusted fingers milling around in them? No thank you.

Yes, the school my sister works at only does fundraising for Catholic charities.

Our school paid lip service to CIN (hastily-organised cake sale) and I suspect Red Nose Day will be the same, as nothing has been put in the calendar as yet.

There are, however, a gazillion non-uniform days and other events to raise money for a) the PTA and b) one parent's chosen charity.

I am very irked by it, but suspect I wouldn't be able to change anything.

On CIN day I made a point of sending in DC1 resplendent in CIN headband, badges, wristbands, etc. Will do same for Red Nose Day!

My kids school supports every charity going. We practically have begging letters everyweek, which makes me feel shit because I'm counting the pennies. Sponsor this, cake sales, £2 for own clothes day, food product for hampers... The list goes on. Can schools just educate kids and stop pestering for cash? Or at least pick one charity to support?
