Is Family SEAL pants in your school?

I was looking forward to Family SEAL and had high hopes for it, but unfortunately it has been fairly useless to me and many of the others on the course feel the same. The course, for those who don't know the format, is 2 hours a week. The first hour is just for parents who are given information on how to help their children with their emotional and social wellbeing. Ihe second hour, the children are brought in from the classroom and activities are set to do with your child.

I've enjoyed getting a bonus hour during school time with my dd who is in reception and the activities are quite good; we both enjoy them. But the first hour is awful! Actually patronising. We are told that hungry children cannot learn and that we should really give them breakfast. [sceptical]

Also it's a good idea to smile at our children when we pick them up from school.

I know there are some parents who don't know the baics but I don't think they would bother/ think it worth while spending two hours of their week at the sessions.

I am not saying I'm a perfect parent. Far from it some days! That's why I was looking forward to the course. Thought I might get some good hints and tips on everyday life when things are stressful.

Any other parents out there who have done the course and got anything out of it or not?

Is there anyone out there who has done the SEAL training and can let me know whether it is just being poorly delivered in my dds school or whether the whole thing is just paying lip service to Social and emotional develoment?

it was useless to me too. but apparently there really are parents who do send their kids to school without breakfast. it is AGAIN a government initiative imposing on parents. text is set by politicians and poor teachers are just messengers.
thank god I took my kids out of school. I felt like a puppet.
i was also told in those sessions to look for reasons why i loved my son!!!! Shock
so patronizing
