I'm not a cool mum, help! How do they access pop music these days?

I'm lost now that top of the pops has died! How do you allow your kids to access popular music on radio etc? Does the chart show still exist somewhere? I'm afraid I'm one of those mums who find a lot of modern music videos unacceptably provocative and don't really want to give free rein on youtube and I don't want her to be a social outcast either. DD has an i-pod, but can't afford to download everything she fancies.

I just asked 10 year old DS and he said he watches 4Music and Viva on Freeview. No good for avoiding the videos though, sorry.

Listen to the radio- radio 1.

Dd goes to street dance and gets lots of tunes from that.

Even just something like a "Now" compilation album usually has a lot big stuff they like. Buy old style on cd or download for iPod.

Maybe a good thing for Christmas?

Every few months we download the latest Now 82,83 etc. this keeps my 11 and 9 year olds happy enough. Was 12.99 for 40ish songs.

I have heard tell of my children use a thing called Youtube converter which allows you to download music from videos on youtube for free.

Disclaimer - this may or may not be legal Wink

Spotify is your friend! Free to listen to, can create playlists etc

Spotify, DAB radio, their friend's devices (myriad of choices), parents, FM radio, iTunes.

What amazes me is the plethora of functions each device has. DS mostly listens to music on his DSi. Rings people with the iPad (okay, Skypes) and takes pictures with the phone.
