If your daughter has started her periods, was it a similar age to you? I started the same age as my Mum and was speaking to some friends recently who said they all started within a year of their Mum.
I was 11 as was dd1. DD2 is now 9 and I think I need to have the talk with her so it doesn't come as a hideous surprise. Although, with the level of openness in our house she probably already knows the basics.
I was v nearly 12 and dd has just started at 11 yrs 3 months.
I read somewhere that on average girls start approx 6 months earlier than their mothers these days.
My mother was 14 I think; all my (four) sisters were either 13 or 14, but I started at 11. My Dad was shaving at 13 though so I think I got that from him. I had my pre-adolescent growth spurt early and looked older than my age at 11. Definitely already had a bit of a bust and had hit 7 stone, which my mother was convinced was the magic number.
My mum was 12 and I was 14. Not sure if my mum has ever been as much as 7 stone other than when pg
my mum and I were both 12. My eldest dd was 11. The younger one is ten, takes much more after dh's side of the family, and is nowhere near as far into puberty as dd1 was at the same age.
I was 15, eldest sis was 8 and other sis was 12 our mum started when she was 13
This is an interesting thread. I have a DD who is 10 and will be 11 towards end of this year. I think she is way off starting her periods. Mine started when I was 12 and 9 months. Seems like some people on here think girls don't always take after their mothers with their pattern of puberty - that they can take after their Dad's side. I have been assuming that DD will be small busted like me, but DP has pointed out that she might take after his mother and be big busted! Is this possible? Because I will be so jealous if she does!
So far all were older than I was, one by several years.
Bust size all over the shop too.
I know it's an older thread, but its relevant and I did search for it, rather than starting a new thread.
I was 12 and a half, summer before starting y9.
DD is 10y9m and it would seem that she has started today, or maybe yesterday, She's been developing a lot in this past year, esp in recent months. Has been wearing a bra since just before her 10th birthday for example.
App DH's mum was very early - 9 or 10. My mum was a bit older I think.
Yes I did, 13and we both stopped at 55
I was 14.5, dd was 12.5
I was 14 & I think DD1 was too
DD2 was younger but I can't remember
that's interesting about your MIL, hula. I heard something on the radio today about men's baldness (or not) matching their mother's father, not their own. I think we tend to assume these things will come from the parent of the same sex but apparently not
is your DD OK about starting this soon?
(apparently not always, I mean)
I was 10 when I started
DD1 was 11 (now 16)
DD2 was 12 (and still is)
DD3 is 10 and nothing yet.
She appears to be, thanks Ponders. So far has taken it in her stride. I don't think she is the first in her class - which is good for her I think.
Oh and dd says she has no bush (8yr old ds says she has a green bush after barging in on her in the bath but he tries to be funny) she has no underarm hair but has boobs
I was nearly 16, dd was 11. My periods are so light as to be non existent, poor dd has always had heavy and painful periods and is now on the pill to sort the bloody things.
I started age 11, dd is about to turn 13 and I expect she'll be in the next couple of months.
I was just turned 11.
DD1 was 13.
DD2is 14 and a half and hasn't started yet,but physically is tall and slimish with no boobage, whereas I was wearing a bra aged 9.
mum was 14 I was 12 my older sister was 11
what are the signs that point 'in the next couple of months'?
we went through about 6 months of mood swings with DD when she was 10.6
and were convinced she would start
then it stopped and she has reverted back to her usual self
she is showing physical signs of puberty -bra & fluff
over the magic 7 st but very tall
I was 13 and well over 7stone for anyone that thinks that is the magic number
I've been wondering about this. My mum was 14, I was also 14. I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old. The 11 year old is quite severely autistic so (not knowing how she'll react to it) I keep wondering whether I have a few years left to worry about it or not!
Dd is quite tall but under 7 stone. Been wearing a bra for 10 months or so. Lots of development ESP in last few months. Her body shape s totally different now, needs deodorant etc. so not all together a surprise tbh.
Interesting question...
My DD's both started at just under 12 years, as did I. They are both under average weight (as was I) but one is tall and the other relatively short. My sister started at about 15 as did my Mum.
My friend started at age 10 and her daughter aged 10 has just started too.
I read somewhere that girls lacking a good relationship with a dad (or substitute) start earlier. I don't think that is true in my DD's case.
Re the baldness - DH still has a lot of hair at age 42, as do his older brothers and his dad still has hair in his 70's.
I was 12, dd was 11.5 I didnt think weight had anything to do with it, more a body fat ratio. DD was definitely under 7 stone and i dont think i was that heavy either.
