What is the term for nursery staff that are on a reserve list and wotk here and there as standins when regular staff are off, might try to get on the list for extra work but the proper term escapes me .

Bank staff?

We used to use agency workers and used the term 'bank' staff AFAIR.

Supply thats the one I was looking for, don't know if they do it in this areas but where I trained the council had a supply list. Thankyou.

Bank also sounds right.

Nurse-bank staff
teacher-supply
car-relief
also substitute teachers

That tends to be the general rule.
