A useless MN Poll - gestation of babies depending on season

So. In the interests of keeping me from boredom, and at the suggestion of tillyscoutsmum {ha, i shall blame you} I am asking this question.

My DD was a summer baby, born in 2006 when we had a heatwave. She was born 10 days early, relatively small (for no known reason).

This time, i am having a boy, and so far he is 8 days late, and not indicating if he intends to make an appearance soon. Thinking perhaps he is wanting to put a bit more fat on him to help him through the winter months!

Is there any correlation between winter/summer babies and how long they take to make an appearance?

Come and share and completely blow my very useless theory out of the water while I sit eating Doritos, soured cream and guacamole.

Ha! God im bored now and still have 6 weeks!
At least your near the finish line AND more to the point - you have dorito's - yum!

My DS was 3 weeks early in May 07. Was a cold rubbish summer though and I think he was early due to placenta previa.

I hope your theory is right though, I found my DS hard work to feed due to being so small. I want this one due in January to come out big, fat, awake and hungry!

Dd was born 4 weeks early in Feb, had to stay in scbu, ds1 was born 2 weeks early in Oct and ds2 was born a few days early in Jan.

DS1 was born 3 weeks early, end of October (should have been in November), so he disproves your theory, sorry (on a sample of 1 )

Am hoping DS2, due in March arrives on time to be honest, I think the longer they're in, the better (although can appreciate going overdue is a PITA!)

PS can I have a virtual Dorito and guacamole (belly rumbling!)

Well, I have had one summer baby (June) 2 winter babies (December and February) and one spring baby (March) and they were all either 2 or 3 days late. So, no correlation here!

hmm. DS was born in December, 16 days late and after induction. So far so good.

However - I was born 5 days late in July.

(DH was born 2 weeks late in May, but that was in Oz so fits in with your "theory")

ds2 Feb was 4 days late

(ds1 induced at 38 weeks so doesn't count)

My SIL has 4 dcs, 2 summer babies, 2 winter. All born at 40+1.

Well that's my theory buggered then !

Report
PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 26/11/2009 19:32

I see there is no pattern whatsoever!

Oh well, it has passed some time, I have eaten all the doritos, am about to have a curry (DH gone to pick it up) and I am 4cm dilated without contractions! (so far ) so this baby will be here soon enough !

tilly it was a good theory, and I reckon if we get a few hundred more, we might get some links...maybe its a simple as the only people posting are those wishing to disprove it. It is not random enough clearly

One to back up your theory, DD born early Dec 16 days late. Don't blame her it was bloody cold

Report

My DD was born almost 3 weeks early in November. My DS was born two months 9 days late in August, although it definitely wasn't a heatwave last summer . I think he was just waiting for his special birthday - 08.08.08 Imagine if he had weighed 8lb 8oz too, he actually weighed 10lb 7oz [ouch]
