Anyone elses baby measured small but all was ok. Midwife worried and sending me for scan in the morning.

(27 Posts)
Hello
I went for my 28 week scan this afternoon and my midwife was worried about my baby only measuring 25 weeks. She said I need to have a scan tomorrow morning to check everything is ok with the baby and placenta. I am really worried now and hope the baby is ok. My friends little boy jumped on my stomach and winded me a few weeks ago. I felt sick for a bit but was ok after with no pain or bleeding/fluid etc so assumed I was fine. Lots of peoples toddlers jump on their bumps and I heard how protected your baby is... trying to convince myself here. Anyone else had this experience only to have a scan to show nothing is wrong? Could I just be having a small baby. My other two were good sizes so would the baby be small. I have a hearty appetite and dont drive so i probably do too much walking and my job is quite pysical but everything is teh same as my last pregnancy... so why would this be any different?

Hi, reading your message makes me think of my own situation. My baby is also measuring small... approx 4.51bs at 34 weeks... apparently he's about 2.5 weeks behind in weight. But like you he's moving around a lot!! and his heartbeat is fine... he also kicks quite a bit!
At first I was really worried but now am just coming to the conclusion that he is just going to be a small baby. I was only about 5.5lb. I'm also only 5.2" so I'm hardly going to have a giant for a baby. Have another scan week 37 so fingers crossed all ok & he's put some weight on!!

good luck

Glad all is well, I know from previous experience how horrible and draining it can be when you are told something may be wrong. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well. grin for the small head!!

All is ok grin

Phew!

Got there at 9.30am then had to wait an hour before I saw my consultant who said the baby was only measuring 23 weeks instead of 28 weeks. She also was cross when I told her about my friends boy jumping on my belly. She said I should of got checked out asap and it does not take much to rupture a placenta. So I was really worried! She told me to wait to see if they could fit me in for a scan so had to wait about another hour and then I had a lovely older woman who was a real pro done a growth scan and talked me through everything. She put my mind at rest instantly and told me my babies femur was measuring 29 weeks, tummy 28 weeks (which also means the placenta is fine as if there was a problem the tummy size shows this), head 27 weeks (small head ) and there was plenty of fluid and that everything looked totally normal and spot on for 28 weeks. She also said NOT to worry about the boy jumping on me and that babies are alot sturdier then we think and protected with all the fluid. Like someone else on here said to me.

She also printed out a fantastic profile shot of baby for me, she was so sweet and I think she could see how worried I was.

I then had to wait to see the consultant again. She said that because I am 5,7 and its my third the baby it is probably just very snug and low down. So this is why my fundus is not measuring 28 weeks. She said she wants to check me again in 2 weeks - not sure why and didnt question as I thought I was about to faint I was so hungry and desperate to get out of there. DD had stolen my fruit from my bag during the long wait.

So relieved now. Need to cut and paste this into a thread I started yesterday. I am such a worrier!!!

Devotion, hope all goes ok today, am sure it will. I have an antenatal appt today - mini GT test for me. Yuck! Tried to wheedle my way out of it, but since I have diabetes on my dad's side, it is sensible to get it done I s'pose. <<Grumpy emoticon>> grin

I had this with my ds. Apparently, it's more common in subsequent pregnancies as everything has stretched a bit and the baby's head tends to be lower in the pelvis.
Hope that it goes well.

Devotion - MWs sometimes have no tact at times and although they have done this a 1000x it doesnt mean they know it all! you know your body you know baby is moving about and all is well!yes it is!
My MW told me " that my sex scan may of been incorrect because hers was" how rude i never asked for her opinion, so dont give it!angry
will check in with you tomo!

How big are you by the way? I mean if you are 5" I would expect the baby to be small?

Hope all goes well at the scan.

thank you all.

my shoulders feel a little lighter.

will be totally relaxed after scan, i just want to know i do not have an abrupted placenta after my friends little boy winded me.

DD measured 4 weeks small from 28 weeks and I was scanned and was told to expect a tiddler or little fluid. When my waters broke I flooded the floor of the delivery room - MW was amazed that the waters just kept coming. it took 2 people with mops to clear it up and DD was born 7lb10.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
