Hello
I went for my 28 week scan this afternoon and my midwife was worried about my baby only measuring 25 weeks. She said I need to have a scan tomorrow morning to check everything is ok with the baby and placenta. I am really worried now and hope the baby is ok. My friends little boy jumped on my stomach and winded me a few weeks ago. I felt sick for a bit but was ok after with no pain or bleeding/fluid etc so assumed I was fine. Lots of peoples toddlers jump on their bumps and I heard how protected your baby is... trying to convince myself here. Anyone else had this experience only to have a scan to show nothing is wrong? Could I just be having a small baby. My other two were good sizes so would the baby be small. I have a hearty appetite and dont drive so i probably do too much walking and my job is quite pysical but everything is teh same as my last pregnancy... so why would this be any different?

Forgot to say I get lots of movements and the babies heartbeat was easy to find.

Had fortnightly growth scans with ds, never measured more than 34 weeks. They told me he'd be 5lbs maybe less but he was born on EDD at 7lbs.

Good luck with your scan

Hi, my DS2 measured small and I had several scans late in my pregnancy to check this. We was born 12 days early weighing 6lb 11 (which I wouldn't class as small). I think I just didn't have much fluid surrounding him. Try not to worry, and hope your scan goes well.

I once had a scan at about 35 weeks because I was measuring small for dates. The scan showed the baby was actually spot on average size and he was born at 41 weeks weighing 7lb7.

Actually when I had dc3, I didn't measure small and she did turn out to be a larger baby.

Good luck tomorrow

Yes, and all was fine. Lots of movement sounds very positive so I'm sure things will be OK.

all 3 dcs, all 3 fine.

itsw probably just pre cautinary so dont panic..19 years ago I was hospitalised with dd1 and told she was small and would only weigh 5lbs..they kept me in from 36-38 weeks..she was born at 41 weeks weighing 8lb 9grin

thanks everyone

i think it is possible there is not much fluid because i really feel the movements so much more than before and from very early too. plus you can see the limbs sticking out when he or she is awake and really going for it.

if it was a case of not much fluid, whats does that mean, is it bad?

i have been saying to everyone that I am sure my bump is smaller this time then with other pregnancies and people have made comments about that too.

thanks x

Yes - measured 6 weeks behind at one point. Told me to expect at 6 pound baby.

I got a nearly 9 pound one!

I was the opposite sent for 5 scans measuring big and DS2 was born at 7lb14oz, hardly a whopper.

My midwife said if theres more than 2cms difference they have to send you to hospital.

I worried for nothing.

On DS3 I looked 9months pregnant at 5 months (to much pizza) so she used her common sense.

good luck

from 32 weeks, DS was measuring small. cue lots of regular monitoring. DS arrived at 37 weeks weighing 5lbs 1oz. Yes he was little, but perfectly healthy and little.

Dont worry at all, but the only thing I would say is just keep an eye on fetal movements. From 28 weeks, the movements should be more regular. Get any reduced movements checked out.

I measured small all the way through: sent for endless scans; was told by consultant while in labour that I was going to have a small baby. DS was 10lbs 7oz grin

Don't worry about it!

Dd2 measured small but was 8lb9 when born.

blowninonabreeze Thu 05-Nov-09 19:30:20

I had it in both pregnancies, DD1 was 6 lb 13 oz, DD2 7 lb 13 oz.

Fundal height measurements is fairly unreliable - try not to worry.

I measured small for my dates with dd (at about the same stage as you iirc), then 2 weeks later I measured the right length for my dates. Mw said you can measure small if the baby is lying at a funny angle. DD was 8lb3oz at birth. Just after DD's birth, and a 3rd degree tear, I remember thinking that I wouldn't have minded if she'd been just a little bit small.

I had scans from about week 32. I was measuring 33 at 38. Eventually I was induced at 39 weeks and the baby was born weighing 6lbs, 3oz so small. She's still on the 2nd centile but throughout the last trimester there was concern about growth and the scans were always ok but never conclusive enough for me to be told 'ok, all is well'.

I was told baby was measuring small at 20 wk scan, never measured big by midwife and DS was 10.1lb, my midwife saif that some people are really hard to measure accurately. try not t worry x

DD measured 4 weeks small from 28 weeks and I was scanned and was told to expect a tiddler or little fluid. When my waters broke I flooded the floor of the delivery room - MW was amazed that the waters just kept coming. it took 2 people with mops to clear it up and DD was born 7lb10.

thank you all.

my shoulders feel a little lighter.

will be totally relaxed after scan, i just want to know i do not have an abrupted placenta after my friends little boy winded me.

x

How big are you by the way? I mean if you are 5" I would expect the baby to be small?

Hope all goes well at the scan.

Mama2b5 Thu 05-Nov-09 21:57:34

Devotion - MWs sometimes have no tact at times and although they have done this a 1000x it doesnt mean they know it all! you know your body you know baby is moving about and all is well!yes it is!
My MW told me " that my sex scan may of been incorrect because hers was" how rude i never asked for her opinion, so dont give it!angry
will check in with you tomo!

Rosebud05 Thu 05-Nov-09 22:12:41

I had this with my ds. Apparently, it's more common in subsequent pregnancies as everything has stretched a bit and the baby's head tends to be lower in the pelvis.
Hope that it goes well.

Devotion, hope all goes ok today, am sure it will. I have an antenatal appt today - mini GT test for me. Yuck! Tried to wheedle my way out of it, but since I have diabetes on my dad's side, it is sensible to get it done I s'pose. <<Grumpy emoticon>> grin

All is ok grin

Phew!

Got there at 9.30am then had to wait an hour before I saw my consultant who said the baby was only measuring 23 weeks instead of 28 weeks. She also was cross when I told her about my friends boy jumping on my belly. She said I should of got checked out asap and it does not take much to rupture a placenta. So I was really worried! She told me to wait to see if they could fit me in for a scan so had to wait about another hour and then I had a lovely older woman who was a real pro done a growth scan and talked me through everything. She put my mind at rest instantly and told me my babies femur was measuring 29 weeks, tummy 28 weeks (which also means the placenta is fine as if there was a problem the tummy size shows this), head 27 weeks (small head ) and there was plenty of fluid and that everything looked totally normal and spot on for 28 weeks. She also said NOT to worry about the boy jumping on me and that babies are alot sturdier then we think and protected with all the fluid. Like someone else on here said to me.

She also printed out a fantastic profile shot of baby for me, she was so sweet and I think she could see how worried I was.

I then had to wait to see the consultant again. She said that because I am 5,7 and its my third the baby it is probably just very snug and low down. So this is why my fundus is not measuring 28 weeks. She said she wants to check me again in 2 weeks - not sure why and didnt question as I thought I was about to faint I was so hungry and desperate to get out of there. DD had stolen my fruit from my bag during the long wait.

So relieved now. Need to cut and paste this into a thread I started yesterday. I am such a worrier!!!

Ps. mistletoekisses - goodluck with your test today. how is it done? x
