Hi all,

I've posted a few times on the conception board but this is my first time posting here. I'm 9weeks pregnant today and since the weekend I've had a really bad cold which thankfully is finally starting to shift. The thing is my mouth feels really strange. My jaw, gums and even teeth feel really achy....I'm aware this sounds ridiculous but it's actually really uncomfortable....is this to do with pregnancy do you think or more to do with my cold?! I can't actually believe I'm starting a thread about an achy mouth haha it's really irritating me though!

Hmmmmm sorry I've got no idea. Maybe someone can help you in a bit.

Do you have any dental problems?

LauraK1987 · 30/11/2016 21:05

No, nothing like that at all....my teeth and mouth are really healthy and apart from the odd filling I've never had any issues. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's just so bloody uncomfortable !!

It would appear that gingivitis is a common pregnancy side effect. Could explain it?

I used to get gingivitis quite often until I started seeing a hygienist every three months or so. I used to find warm (not hot) water sloshing around my mouth or just being held in there before spitting out soothing. Paracetamol helps too :)

Thank you so much for that! I've been cleaning extra hard the last few days as putting pressure on my gums and really going for it when cleaning seems to be the only thing that gives me some relief!! Hopefully if this is what it is it will clear up soon! Thank you again xx

Careful, I think the extra pressure thing is a bit like a vicicous cycle... feels better with more pressure... so you push more... so it hurts more... so you push more etc.

Try some interdental brushes and book yourself in with a hygienist for a good scrape and polish :)

Sounds like sinusitis.

There's a reason dental care is totally free for pregnant women - teeth (or my dentist would say gums) going a bit wrong is really common. Pop to the dentist. And congratulations on your pg!
