Help please?

I went to my GP the other day and they sent me to the EPU because they think I have an ectopic pregnancy. But I've been sent home because my HCG is only 330. Does anyone know what this means? I've been told it needs to increase by 60% in 48 hours, what happens if it doesn't?
I'm somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks pregnant, if it helps.

didn't want to read and run...as far as i understand it, with an ectopic pg the hcg levels rise as per normal but the embryo implants in the tube which then causes problems at about 9 weeks when it gets too big and pain starts on one side. If they monitor your hcg levels they'll be able to tell if it's 'normal' or not. (someone more knowledgeable may be along soon with more info!)

Sorry you're going through this. I've been through 2MC so can understand where you're at waiting for results etc.

Hey. I'm currently waiting (the most horrible experience) to see if I'm having an MC. The only helpful piece of advice I could get was from the MC Association, who told me to try and get my GP to take two blood tests 48 hours apart so they can see if my HCG levels are rising or falling: if they're rising, I'm still pg and everything's pretty much ok; if they're falling, I'm MC. Mebbies the same thing happens with an ectopic? I know they can't develop properly because of where they are, so mebbies if your levels don't rise (they should approximately double every 48 hours apparently if you're developing normally), it'll make it more likely that it's ectopic? Can't say for sure though, I'm sorry. Hope you're feeling ok x

My hcg levels were low and never doubled.
This resulted in twin girls :)

I went through weeks of blood tests scans etc as they thought I was having a ectopic or mc

From what I remember I thibk hcg levels rise with ectopic but don't double.
Im sure that was what I was told but was a couple of years ago now so I could be wrong.

Nope. Started at 260 then 48 hours I was 320 then 48 hours I was about 390 then 410 then 480 and so on.

Go to your early pregnancy unit and demand a scan. I had to do this when my pg was suspected to be ectopic at 8/9 weeks. After days of waiting a simple scan revealed that all was well. Hideous to put a people thru the torture of waiting for tests when a scan can diagnose on the spot. Also this condition is potentially life threatening to you. I don't mean to scare you but please be pushy for the scan. Really hope all is well for you xx

Good news :) just heard back from the unit and my HCG has more than doubled in 48 hours, so I'm going back again tomorrow, and if it's doubled again it should be high enough for a scan (they have a cutoff of 1000 minimum before you can see anything).
Raz, I hope you get good news soon as well, I think the waiting is the worst bit.

Ladythatlunches, I've never heard of that before but it's reassuring that even if they don't double all might be ok. Do you mind me asking if the twins shared a placenta? I know that the placenta produces HCG, so only one might make it a lot lower than normal for twins - normally twins have very high HCG because there's two placentas.

Yes my twins are identical they shared there placenta. :)

I was trying to look for ny thread I started because I was so worried at the time too.

Me and epu were all very surprised that there was 1 hearbeat let alone 2. And it also took me a whike to get a positive test which I have never had before. All my ither babies showed up 4days early on tests.

Thankfully all was well .. and im pleased to see they are for you too :)

Sorry, new to this, how do you measure your hgc levels?

You have blood tests done usually at EPU every 48 hours.

Tigglettchic, your GP can do them as well if you ask, but you'll need to wait longer for the results. They're normally only done if they think there might be a problem with the pregnancy.
