Am 24 nearly 25 weeks. I've already put on nearly 6kg. I know my diet isn't as healthy as it could be, and I am liking sweet things a lot, and also really enjoying cheese, yogurts, strawberry milk (was dairy free for a long time due to bf). How can I halt some of the weight gain? Baby is probably only half a kilo if that! Have started to develop a bump, but still feel fat Sad. I don't really want to diet but I know I need to do something..

I try to only have healthy stuff in the house as I am too lazy to go out and buy some thing naughty once I get home from work. Also work is very full on so this limits my troughing abilities when running around working 12 hour day.

Cheese is one of my few pleasures in life right now, so I do feel your pain!

6kg is just over a stone - surely that's about right considering you are over half way through your pg. Unless midwife/GP has told you otherwise?

I'm 24 weeks and gained a stone (not certain what that is in kg but I think about the same as you) it feels like a lot but I refuse to deny myself if I'm hungry, and I am always starving! There's plenty of time to lose it after the baby is born.

It's not just about what the baby weighs its the placents, extra fluid, extra blood volume bit of fat store for when baby arrives. It all adds up. 6kg at nearly 25 weeks isnt alot really unless your gp or midwife told you otherwise its all dependant on factors such as bmi, if you was within normal bmi range (18.5-25) then the normal weight gain is around 2 and half stone at 40wks. Hope that helps x

That sounds fine so I wouldn't worry too much. I was starving for the first half of my pregnancy but in the last trimester barely ate anything as there wasn't any room for my stomach, so the eating might settle down soon anyway.

When I was in my starving phase, I had a deal with myself that if I wanted cake, I had to eat some fruit first. Sometimes after the fruit I wasn't so bothered about the cake. Only sometimes, mind Grin

According to my book, if you're a healthy weight to start with then by 25weeks you should be up by 6-8kg for an 11-14.5kg gain overall.

So perfect! well done Grin

Step off the scales. You don't get weighed at AN appointments as they can't tell what's essential fat stores, baby, fluid, extra blood or placenta!

Oh, and if you're interested, by the end the weight should be approximately:
Baby 3-4kg
placenta 0.7kg
amniotic fluid 1kg
maternal fat 2.5kg
increased blood and fluid 1.5kg
water retention 2.5kg
larger breasts 0.5kg
larger uterus 1kg

thank you all so much for the replies. this is DC3 for me and this time round i am struggling a bit with my changing shape/weight (not that i liked my body much after DC2 anyway). i seem to be eating more as like you say kelly work limits your ability to eat and though i worked through last two pgs, am now a SAHM and go out for coffee / biscuits etc more than ever.

i was in normal BMI range at booking so it looks as though i am on track then - the MW hasnt weighed me, and it was only because i stepped on some scales with DS at the weekend that i realised how much i did weigh at the moment Shock.

i will try your tip about the fruit before cake noblegiraffe. trouble is have been pg and/or bf for last 6 years so cake is a diet staple. maybe i will try and make more fruity cakes. that will help surely Grin

shelley just avoid the scales - being a bit obsessive about things myself (not my weight but other stuff) I can recognise another worrier. Sounds like you are doing okay, just try and go for healthy options and avoid the scales!

Shelley I totally understand Dc3 here too, I've always been very body concious, I've just avoided the scales this time I was weighed at booking and the 12wk scan but havnt been since I'm just tryin to relax a little. And my diet is not great I'm obsessed by cake and crisps lol xx

Ah Shelley - if it makes you feel any better, I'm on DC3, similar stage to you and I've put on 2 stone (and was a stone heavier than when I had ds2 too). I tend to put on 3 and a half or so in my pregnancies - suspect it may be nearer 4 stone by the end of this one. And that's despite eating really healthily this pregnancy - lots of veg and fruit - and keeping up lots of exercise in this pregnancy! Cant control it - its just what my body is doing. I suspect given the enormity of my bump that I've got a lot of fluid retention going on too.

If you're keeping fit and active, drinking lots of water (aim for 2 litres a day) and eating healthily pretty much, then whatever you put on is what you're meant to put on if you see what I mean.
