Is it true third labours can be a bit of a pain? I seem to be hearing this a lot.

Mine was really easy. Waters broke at 10.30 a.m. called an ambulance straight away as have quick labours, arrived at hospital 7cm dialated, had DS at noon and then tucking into a roast dinner at 12.30.

Had heard lots of horror stories about third and fifth labours being difficult but my third was my easiest. First one was horrendous, second was so fast I was in shock. Third time I had gaps between contractions for the first time and was laughing and joking with the midwife - only horrible bit was the pushing but he was 10 lbs so that was understandable!

dc3 was quickest!

My first was a hell 37 hours long, back to back and ventouse, with drip and arm. 4 days early. 2nd degree tear. 9lb12

Second was straightforward - waters went at 10pm, he was born at 8am, just some gas&air. 10 days early. Grazing. 9lb3

Third was induced at 36+6 as I was really unwell with a kidney problem. Was given gel at 6am, slept till 9am, she was born at 6.30pm. Only funny bit was the waters didn't break until the 2nd last contraction, and when they id it was full in the face of the junior doc who was having a look. Even I laughed at that. Just gas&air, 2nd degree tear, 7lb13.

Honestly, after the horror of the first, the second and third were easy!!

Quick, compared to one and two. Waters broke about 4AM, contractions stared properly about 3.00pm and he was born at 4.35pm had only been at the hospital for 40 mins. Little bit of gas and air and no tears, my best birth of the four.

The after pains are horrible though I wasn't prepared for them at all.

First two were AWFUL, third was great ! Of course you know what's coming, so that helps, but it was quicker and i felt in control ... i know it's hard not to worry about it though, so good luck !

My 3rd was my only labour that wasn't induced but was by far the quickest and easiest - 2 hours from first contraction to baby.

Good luck.

Pretty similar to my second - about 6 hours start to finish. Gas & Air. Even the same midwife by strange coincidence. Baby much bigger than the others (4.8kg) but no stitches (don't know whether to be proud or ashamed of firing such a large baby out with no sign of damage?)

9.5 hours of the easiest labour ever. Pain was only ever like bad period pain and I never felt a need for any pain relief. By far the easiest to push out as well. Wish all my labours and births had been so great. Really hoping for a repeat of this when I have my fifth (due next wk).

It was the easiest. In hospital at 8.30am 8cm, ds3 born at 10am and were home via Tesco for 2.30pm!

Contractions started at 2.10am but I wasn't induced with this one.

Forgot to say, prepare for the after pains. I found mine worse than labour and they lasted about 2 weeks.

Don 't know if I should tell you OP but here it goes. Ds ended up 10 days late. I had loads of contractions on and off for two weeks beforehand including a false labour. I coudn't sleep much and it was a pain (litterally). However when he decided to get going it was quite quick. Contractions started again at 18.00 but I wasn't sure whether this was it or not. At 20.00 they got stonger and more regular so called the MW and DS was born at 23.30. So all in all the labout was fine but the run up was exhausing.

Thank you to you all, it's good to hear that it's the not majority of your 3rd labours were awful, sorry to hear about those that were though.
Thanks for the heads up on the after pains, they were quite bad after my 2nd labour so I expect they will be worse this time.
My 2 labour was very quick and I am hoping this one will be quick too....that's If it ever starts 40+6 today Hmm
