My friend has tickets to see Pink and has asked me to go...
I really want to!! But the volume, the jostling?
Is it a stupid decision to go?
No, I personally wouldn't, but only because I would spend most of the time in the loo throwing up or sitting outside in a quiet area rubbing my indigestion filled belly! I went to Jack Johnson Concert at 6 months pg with DD, but it was calmer and much less base that's for sure! and I went to see Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park with DS at 4 months (and all the bands before that, all afternoon) - i was actually more worried at that concert than the Jack Johnson one, as it was very crowded and no-one could see I was pg. As it happened it was absolutely amazing, I just had to go and rest on the grass for the last hour of his usual 3-hour set as my ankles were sore and swollen! Gutted!
I agree with posters who say work out things like how you will travel there and back, will you have a seat, how easy will it be to get out of there if you need some air, to the toilet, how will you get to hospital from there if you go into labour, can your partner come to you quickly if you need him there (or indeed have your partner on the scene/want him there, don't mean to be presumptous!), how close are you to your friend? will she deliver the baby in the moshpit if required?
I think it very much depends how you are feeling. You might be feeling on top form and ready for a good dance and listen to some good music, or you might be huge and dead on your feet ready to sleep by 7pm, desperate to go home and be miserable.
See how you feel on the night.
Was in Ibiza in the countryside at 6 months, worked till 2 weeks before the birth, could not have dealt with crowds though apart from commuting
I went to Supersonic Festival (really loud drone/rock/experimental music) at 8 months pg. Absolutely loved it and DS (now 4yo) was/is fine. I did take a folding chair with me though, and was very glad of it.
I went to a festival for 4 nights at 34 (or 36?) weeks pregnant. Had a fab time
I saw Take That whilst 6mths pregnant with DS. Don't think he was impressed, he curled into a tight ball (probably with fingers jammed in ears) and didn't move again until I was on the train home! I don't think he was impressed with my screaming - I'm afraid I did regress to my teenage self for a couple of hours
It's completely down to you, are you fit and well? Will you be standing all night and wishing you were sitting, or would you be ok for a couple of hours? Pink is fab in concert, lucky you being offered tickets!
I absolutely would especially if seated and you can get to and from the venue easily. Went to glastonbury when pregnant and also saw Friendly Fires, Fleet Foxes and the MN fave Paul McCartney between 7 and 8 1/2 months pg. I wouldn't have got right down the front, and I only slightly jigged around a bit - got seats when I could. Stewards, and other people at the gigs, were all v kind and friendly.
Hi it's def a real personal choice and only you can say what's best for your well being and your unborn child!
Concerts are very unpredictable and it can be one silly person pushing etc to maybe put you in a situation you wasn't expecting!
The way I see it its so hard to think far ahead and maybe tell your friend yes and maybe get her to have someone else in mind just in case on that night you may feel its not possible and wouldn't want to drop her in it and
Lose the ticket money!!!!
I'm 34 weeks and can't face going out to the market never alone a concert!!!!
All the best in the rest of your pregnancy!
I saw Mercury Rev when I was 38wks. I kept taking breaks to sit down but was fine. Id go for it.
I saw Meatloaf at 8 months pregnant. Had seats, felt fine, DS was dancing away inside me, he loves Meatloaf now.
It may depend who and how full on it will be! I am going with my mum to see neil finn and paul kelly on 27th feb... bub will e a elscs on march 14th...
duende I went to see Stone Roses last June at Heaton Park - absolutely amazing gig and wouldn't have missed it for anything. Just be aware that I've never seen so many drunk/drugged up people in my life in one place together, and it got quite hairy at times with people pushing and shoving especially on the way out which was chaos with crowds storming the fences and smashing them down as they felt they couldn't get out quick enough. They also had to shut the bars early as people were jumping over and pushing the bar staff so they could nick drinks. Like I said, the music was amazing but I'd have been terrified if I'd have been pregnant.
I'd go, especially if there's a seat (although be prepared that others around you may dance ;) )
I went to loads of gigs when I was pregnant. The only thing I turned down was an arena comedy gig at 36 weeks as I knew I'd be going to the loo a lot and it's more disruptive for others at a comedy gig or the theatre or something.
I was just thinking "Well OBVIOUSLY, dur", but that's because 'concert' to me means 'Schubert at the Proms'
<old gimmer>
I went to gigs all through my pregnancy, including one at 42 weeks pregnant. I was overdue and since all the traditional methods weren't working I thought an evening of loud music and leaping around would work. It didn't.
I felt a bit anxious at his first hearing test too...
My sister in law went to see Pink when she was 8 months pegnant with my niece, she ha standing tickets and said she got barged around an awful lot but other than that I think she was ok.
It depends how you feel. If you decide to go make sure you rest lots from the day before. In my experience (35wks now) if ive had a hectic day im exhausted the next day. At 30 weeks i went to a dinner and dance our table was by the band. It was ok at first but after awhile it all got to much ie noise, heat and the crowd so left before it finished. However, i wouldve regretted it if i didnt go at all. If it wasnt seated i wouldnt have went.
I did, with a two hour drive each way! We had seats though and it was a bit of an old farts kind of a gig (although still loud) so no jostling. Loved it. Ds is now 3 and I can't see it did him any harm.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
She wanted an answer now, maybe i'll be fine but I didn't want to risk wasting the ticket so I've declined
Damn responsibility!
I went to a concert at 18 weeks and spent the entire time stressing about the bass that was vibrating through my whole body and making me feel uncomfortable, let alone my very kicky baby. The jostling and crowds were fine and even the loos weren't so bad, so I'd definitely still be happy to go to another show, but no more electronic /bass heavy music or standing tickets, it just felt wrong!
