The BEST things about being pregnant!

(103 Posts)

Ladies, lets have a positive post to share some of the good things about being pregnant at different stages (we know there are lots of niggles, pains and grim things to contend with). grin

I'm 13+2 and just hitting a better (but, not perfect) phase.

My best things so far are:

- keeping a very exciting secret (until next week!)
- glossy hair
- hubby doing more stuff around the house
- buying maternity clothes and getting eBay bargains
- the excuse to plan house-projects
- a new focus for exercise
- excitement about starting a family with DH and being 'we three'

...and seeing our baby waving (with finger bones!) at the scan this week!

What about you?

MrsJohnDeere Thu 18-Oct-12 12:09:08

Having an excuse not to put the bins out or lift heavy stuff.

AlphaBeta82 Thu 18-Oct-12 12:10:02

So far this one is acually sticking! I couldn't be happier!! :-D

Msbluesky32 Thu 18-Oct-12 12:10:33

I'm just too excited about seeing our baby at the next scan, the birth can't come quickly enough!

Feeling your little bundle wiggling, kicking and hiccuping away inside you - best thing EVER in the world.

InchyInchy Thu 18-Oct-12 12:19:55

Great idea for a thread, I'm nearly 24 weeks and although I've had my far share of niggles I get excited everytime I feel the baby move. I'm sure I will get tired of kicks at some stage but nothing makes me smile more.

And I completely love buying baby things and decorating the nursery.

Ameliac28 Thu 18-Oct-12 12:23:46

Great thread! I'm 18 weeks and started to feel my baby move more now which I am loving, eating pasta at night not worry about looking bloated the next morning, Hubby giving me massages smile

Soft smooth hair
Being looked after more than usual by dp
Feeling good about my body and enjoying having a bump.
Great boobs.
Telling my ds and dd they're getting a sibling, ds was 16mnths when dd arrived so I never got to tell him really, but they will be 4 and 5.5 when dc3 arrives and they're so excited!
Feeling the baby move is the best thing ever!

snickers251 Thu 18-Oct-12 12:34:29

No more magic knickers! grin

Love my body when pg! So proud of my big bump and what's growing inside

People (particularly old ladies) were really nice to me. I know that some people remain indifferent or just rude, but I was so touched by the number of total strangers who smiled at me, held open doors, offered seats and were generally considerate and lovely.

I felt a bit faint in a shopping centre when I was about 36 weeks - it was very hot and I'd overdone it a bit. A passing lady noticed me leaning against the wall and found me a place to sit, and the nearest cafe gave me a free drink. I tried to pay them when I felt better but they wouldn't accept the money.

People were also lovely to me as a new mum. They lied freely about how well I was looking (ha, 1.5 hrs sleep and unbrushed hair, I looked a total state for at least 3 months and still not a lot better now tbh grin ).

18wksplus Thu 18-Oct-12 12:53:44

The cleavage.

The new clothes (since I wore my other maternity clothes to death with DD1).

Did I mention the cleavage...??

Think that's it. Can you tell this is my second and I'm bored of being pregnant already...?!

Littlesurprise Thu 18-Oct-12 13:05:12

I started a thread like this not long ago... and everyone seemed to take it as 'be really negative, with a but'. :/ sour grapes.

WitchesTit Thu 18-Oct-12 13:10:50

Not having to hold my belly in.

Being gloriously warm instead of shivering at this time of year.

The attention! (Ok it's only from medics but ill take it where I can get it) grin

Great replies! Lovely story drawing!

LittleSurprise - I did worry that would happen, but you've all proved me wrong. grin there's plenty of evidence of the grim bits all over the board!

Witches - not having to hold belly in - looking forward to being able to let it all hang out in the office in a week or so when I've told them.

Can't wait to feel movements....

NAR4 Thu 18-Oct-12 13:30:55

Not having to suck in my mummy tummy, when I am having a fat day.

The excitement of waiting for babies arrival.

issimma Thu 18-Oct-12 13:37:38

A great excuse to look shit and knackered grin.
The kicks and squirms.
The excitement of digging all the baby stuff out and getting ready.
The knowledge that this is probably the last time!

Greypuddle Thu 18-Oct-12 13:37:38

Volunteers at the Olympics and Paralympics bringing a tear to my eye with their kindness and well-wishes. People in general being really lovely and Londoners proving their reputations wrong and leaping to their feet in Tubes (though I rarely travel in the rush hour so it may be different then...). Hmm, this seems to have turned into best things about London! And yes, feeling the kicks and disco dancing.

ExpatMamaToBe Thu 18-Oct-12 13:58:22

All of the above... plus no hangovers!

spandau1980 Thu 18-Oct-12 14:09:16

a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smile smile smile

suzyrut Thu 18-Oct-12 14:23:17

guilt free early nights and lie ins!

I finally have an excuse for my fat belly, and get to wear maternity jeans with a stretchy waist.
I have an excuse for everything - want to eat chocolate all day? baby's fault
feeling baby move and seeing her on the scan
telling very excited grandparents-to-be
buying cute baby clothes
getting to see what an idiot everyone else makes of themselves when they're drunk and I'm not

PandaWatch Thu 18-Oct-12 17:38:41

Still relatively early on for me (13+1) but I would say so far:

1. DEFINITELY the boobs! (had gone up two cup sizes by week 8!)
2. Seeing the baby at our first scan
3. How happy everyone has been for us. We expected a lot of "congratulations" but are a bit overwhelmed at just how genuinely excited our family and friends are!

Can't wait to feel the baby move!

MyDaydream Thu 18-Oct-12 17:44:59

31 weeks here and I'm loving the big kicks that make my whole stomach shake and feeling his little bum sticking out of my side as far as it'll go.

halloweeneyqueeney Thu 18-Oct-12 17:48:25

being able to wear tight dresses that show off the belly, rather than frumpy belly skimming ones because you're trying to hold it in

counting down the days until you don't have to actually go to work to get paid grin

The attention

The excuse to say no to things when you don't actually have other plans, but you just wanna sit on the sofa and watch telly

MrsHBaby3 Thu 18-Oct-12 17:53:54

Having pesonal central heating system inside me!
Getting to rub my belly and feel kicks,
Being able to randomly chat to my belly!
Being able to have afternoon naps or eat donuts when I like!
