21+4, still no movement

I am 21+4 weeks today, and still I have felt absolutely no movement. My midwife said it was highly unusual and she had never come across it before, which wasn't exactly reassuring. I've tried all the tricks, like drinking something ice cold and then laying still on my side focusing on trying to feel him, but can feel nothing. I could see him moving fine at the 20 week scan, so I know he is ok and alert, but I still can't help feel a bit worried... Does anyone have a similar experience or is the midwife right, is it unique?

Oh how helpful of your midwife! Shame on her. Everyone is different and I was no exception, i think my first real feeling of "oh, that was the baby!" was around 23/24 weeks. So don't worry yourself, there's plenty of kicking and thumping to come for you soon Grin

you may have anterior placenta which is acting as a damper between you and baby, has anything been mentioned on your scan notes?

Just remember there are loads of ladies who don't even know they are pregnant until the baby decides to make an appearance if magazines are anything to go by! So they mustn't feel anything much to make them wonder whats going on in their tummy! I'm sure you'll soon be thinking "I can't believe I actually posted that message on mumsnet when it now seems I've got premier league footballer in here now!"x

Your midwife is rubbish, I have an anterior placenta (in the front) and it's common knowledge that this delays when you first feel the baby. I felt nothing not even a tickle until I was 24+ weeks and then it was barely noticeable. I feel a bit more now that I'm 28 wks but not a lot, I could easily be one of those women that doesn't realise they're pregnant except I've got a pretty obvious bump! Try not to worry everyone is different Smile

Is this your first baby? As it's usual not to feel much or anything at all until between 22 - 24 weeks with your first.

Your midwife needs a slap, that's very insensitive of her and she must know it is not uncommon!

I wouldn't worry, soon you'll have little feet in your ribs and be able to balance things on your tummy and see them wobbling about while the baby wriggles and kicks :) Plus, others could be right, you may have an anterior placenta that is acting as a wall to stop you from feeling it.

My madwife said I may not feel anything until 24 weeks so don't panic! Quite common apparently

I didn't feel movements until 22weeks :) wouldn't worry as uve had a recent scan and all was fine. give it a week or two. if u still can't and r concerned maybe ask for another scan for reassurance!! congratulations btw. xx

If it's reassuring, I'm 24 weeks with 2nd baby & due to anterior placenta, have only just started to feel movement. My sister-in-law loaned me her Doppler so I was able to listen to baby's heartbeat until I could feel it move

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Placenta is high posterior though.
I guess it's just one of those things, I'll wait another couple of weeks and see....
