Anyone had the stretchmark rash??

pep or pupp or something like that..

Starts in your stretchmarks but can spread. I've had it a week now - am 36 weeks and the itching is driving me mad!

If you've had it did it spread? How long did it last? What did your stretchmarks look like afterwards?

Any tips on taking away the itch too?

Thanks in advance.

Yup I had this, would wake in night to find I'd been scratching stretchmarks and they'd be bleeding-ouchy
think I just used calamine lotion. Wasn't there that long after the birth-had spread quite badly down my legs though.
Stretchmarks fine now, all beautiful and silvery Grin

Its awful isn't it. And it spreads!

I used aloe vera (we stocked up on the plants!) for soothing, cut off a couple of inches and spread the goo on the itchy bits, its so soothing.

For my last preg, since I was in third trimester, the GP consulted with an obstetrician and they decided a mild antihistamine would not be too risky. It was bliss. I only needed about 3 tablets and it took it all away.

THB I found the steroid creams did nothing

It's soooooo itchy! I'm trying aloe vera too as nothing else seems to work.

I hope it doesn't spread. Does it usually last till birth then? A whole month of this is going to drive me insane.

Midwife said I shouldn't get it next pregnancy - hope that's true!

When I asked about apprearance of stretchmarks it was just because my belly is a mass of big red blistery looking scabby bits and at this point I can't imagine it ever going away Sad

Ohhh - saw this and had to post. DS is nearly one, but this thread is bringing it all back! Started for me at 39 weeks and I went 2 weeks overdue - began with the stretch marks on my stomach and spread to my legs and feet. I was so sleep deprived from all the itching in the night by the time DS arrived.

I found that calamine was the only thing that temporarily helped. I had steroid cream and antihistamines prescribed, but they did nothing for me. It disappeared a few days after giving birth, like you I wondered what my stretchmarks would look like afterwards, but they really are fine!

Hope its true what your midwife says about not getting it again - it really was one of the worst parts of pregnancy for me - I much preferred the morning sickness I had earlier in comparison!

PUPPS - yes - it started at 23 weeks for me - consultant has prescribed 1% hydrocortisone to get it under control, 4mg piriton 3x a day & aqueous cream with 0.5% menthol. It is totally miserable - it started on my tummy & has spread to thighs, boobs, arms & back now.

LisMcA · 07/04/2011 12:34

What does it look like? Does it only appear on the streach marks? I ask because I've got a little bumpy rash I noticed yesterday on the side of my boob (I have streach marks there) and up into my underarm.

I was worried I had shingles, please tell me I'm normal!

toomuchtimeonline · 07/04/2011 12:38

Oh no so I've got the spreading to look forward to..

Glad to hear it disappears after birth. Let's hope this baby is punctual!

May try the calamine lotion. Cold wet cloths worka bit too..

23 weeks peanut - that's awful. Mine started at 35 and I'm in a bad mood!!

Lismca - mine started as a bumpy rash in my stetchmarks and now it's a lumpy blistery looking rash.

Apparently 1 in 200 women get it Sad

Have googled, and the pictures look like what I have but only on a very small area just now! I'm 38+6 so hopefully baby will come before it spreads!

I love mumsnet! You learn something new every day!

peanutbutterontoast · 07/04/2011 12:51

yeah apparently it is really early to get it sob They said that it is much more common in boy pregnancies (about 70%) - this is my 3rd boy though & I haven't had it before. I read somewhere that if the biopsy the rash they can find fetal DNA in it & it might be an allergic reaction. I have 10 weeks to go now & am counting down the days.

it started off with little bumps, now entire stretch marks are raised & I also have plaque areas on the normal skin. Yuck yuck yuck.

skandi1 · 07/04/2011 12:54

sorry to hear. i had it and it was an ichy unsightly nightmare. after birth it spread all over my body and continued to itch for 3 weeks.

i did see the gp on midwifes advise but gp was so unhelpful and told me it was very dangerous to take any antihistamine or apply steriod cream as i was bfing.

i eventually did get help from midwife as i looked so bad and was so miserable withit. saw a doctor at the hopital only yo find out that both antihistamine in low dose was fine as was cream. argh useless gp.

so do not be fobbed off without treatment!

once it stopped itching the entire ugly rash retreated within a week and any scabs from itching healed fully and disappeared completely.

you would never know that i had this and went back to looking completely normal (as normal as a sleep deprived woman with a newborn can).

skandi1 · 07/04/2011 12:58

the only good news is that apparently once you have had it, its unlikely to reoccur in another pregancy (am pregnant again and very much clinging to that)

and so much for it being related to pregancies with boys.... i had a girl.

LisMcA · 07/04/2011 13:00

Oh well, boy here! explains it all! maybe my next will be a girl and I'll avoid all the lovely things (SPD) i've had this time!

Men! Even before they are born their a pain! (I don't mean it really!)

LisMcA · 07/04/2011 13:00

They're not their! Doh!

toomuchtimeonline · 07/04/2011 13:26

Peanut - I know what you mean - it looks hideous! It's the itching that's the worst though.

Scandi1 - thanks for posting. It's nice to hear it will disappear completely eventually. Although 3 weeks post birth sounds like a long time Sad

Lismca - I'm having a girl (boy last time and no rash) so just shows you!

Good luck with your pregnancies (those who are pregnant) don't forget to check back and update us on your rash/give us hope!!
