They say so, yes, but being noticeably pregnant you can opt out and get a pat down. Although the lovely man Hmm who did one of mine was very happy to tell me that the radiation in the air is worse, but as I said to him, I can't avoid that, but I can avoid the radiation of the scanner.

I've flown a few times already this pregnancy with no problems, so don't panic! Also when I was newly pregnant I went through the scanner as I was too scared to make a fuss when not looking pregnant.

I flew loads when pregnant with #1 and went through the scanners every time (never occurred to me not to) DS seems fine :)

In the middle east they have jumped up and stopped me going through any scanners since I have been visibly pregnant. In Heathrow they made me go through the scanner and then also the new lookatyounaked x-ray thing when the underwiring on my bra beeped at there ridiculously oversensitive metal detector. [hangry]

their, even. I want an edit function!

Yes, they're considered safe. You get far more radiation from being up high in the plane than from the scanners and even that is only considered an issue if you fly a lot (e.g. if you work as a flight attendant).

In the UK, you can ask to opt out, but if they say no, legally you have to go through the scanner or risk not being allowed in.

thanks all! flew today dont look massive yet and the delightful customs lady looked smugly at me, turned to her mate , yelled 'pregnant' and gestured.... and then she made me go through it anyway, whilst tellinh me more radiation on plane! oh well, thanks for your replies
