DD is 22 months and has been asking (and going) to the toilet for wees and poos at least once a day (sometimes twice) for about a month... She's very verbal and is in that phase of wanting to do everything for herself.....Clearly this is a sign that we should be potty training, but she seems so young. WWYD?

I don't think she's too young at all - my eldest child was reliably out of nappies in the day at 17 months (although we did have to take the potty everywhere) and at night just after her second birthday. Her sister was the complete opposite - she was nearly 3 before she showed any interest in the potty and it was only a promise of a treat that got her to actually use it! Once she'd got over that hurdle the nappies were dispensed with within a couple of days.

Based on my experience I'd say that the right age to start potty training is when your child is ready - in your shoes I'd build on what your daughter's already started. So long as you don't get cross if she has an 'accident' it will be fine. Go for it and think of the money you'll be saving!

My dd didn't wear nappies after 22 months.....my generation would have been late at that age!!

Agree wth millymae, just go with what your dd wants and see how you get on. I know several children who were out of nappies before 2 at their own instigation.

She seems ready. Good for her, go for it. As is my dd (older) yipee! I have changed nappies most days since 2007, can't wait to never have to do it again.

Exactly the same age my DD was when she started potty training properly. We went without nappies completely during the day, and it took less than a week for her to be mostly reliably dry.

Interesting. My DD2 is 22 months. She's been telling us when she does a poo for quite a while now. We got DD1's old potty out of the loft a few weeks ago and just let her sit on it before her bath. I've since increased that to after breakfast and after her nap aswell. So far she's managed one poo in the potty, but will happily sit for ages sometimes! I plan to ditch the nappies in a couple of weeks (waiting til after half term break!).

DD1 was just turned 2 when she was potty trained.

I don't think 22 months is too young if the signs are there!

Not too young. Dd was dry day time at 22 months and dry at night by 23, go for it

We had 17 accidents on the first day! 4 on the second day, and then only one or two for a few more days after that. Every child is different, remember that, you may have a perfect first day and then a dreadful second day, it can go up and down for a while. I started it during the holidays, while there was no play groups to go to, so we were at home more or less the whole time. Meant I could have 20 pairs of knickers and leggings on standby, and didnt need to worry about her weeing on somebody elses pristine carpets.
