Hello, i am new to this site & was wondering if any of you lovely ladies would be able to help with a new issue we have surrounding our daughter who is 3 & half, we have been potty training for a while now & finally got somewhere with the weeing, she goes regularly & very rarely wets herself, however with the pooing side of things lately she has started to hold it in, it has now been 4 days without a bowl movement, she will hide in a corner & you can see her scrunching her body up, her toes are curling & i am convinced that she is trying to stop her self pooing, i have tried talking to her about it but she just says she is doing nothing, i picked her up & put her on the toilet the last time i saw her doing it but this to distressed her very much, & still no poo! Is this common?, should i be talking to a doctor?...not really sure what to do for the best!!

I'm no doctor, but I would suggest a dose of lactulose to get things moving again. You can get it from the chemist.

I have a problem with my 4.5 year old son. He is fine with his wees but usually poos in his pants and often just tiny bits at a time as if he is holding it in. He tends to hide in a corner to do it and usually manages not to do it at school. We have tried rewards and stickers with no result. We have tried sitting him on the toilet watching the TV (which he loves) but has only worked once.

BlackSwan : thank you so much for the advice, i brought this & dosed up DD & on the 8th day huraah she pooped! Still having the same issue but am choosing to ignore it for the moment as i am just happy she is pooping, will try to work out why & encourage her to go on the toilet but as i say for the moment i am just happy she is pooping, Thanks again.

Carrie : sounds exactly the same as my issue, as yours is older does he have any explanation for why he does it? I am worried that DD started because i told her off for doing it in her knickers & since then she seems to hide, i told her that poos make mummy really happy but she still prefers to hide, it's so curious!...
